I can't believe we are still beating this dead horse.
If folks feel uncomfortable hanging with other folks, then maybe they should just leave. It ain't rocket science, and it ain't "all about you". It is hardly right to try and force the rest of a fairly disparate group, to conform with one member's world view.

It is hardly right to try and force the rest of a fairly disparate group, to conform with one member's world view. Well that's the point my friend, one could say that if a vocal minority insists on ridicule and insult, maybe they ought to just pack-up & leave. Kind of gets the blood up, don't it? It isn't just one member, I think we heard from three or four, and nobody is speaking for those who already left. But don't worry about me, I didn't expect nothing to change when this thread came about, but I agree with the premise, there isn't any need for it.

A quick yardstick of a thread's usefulness is to just see how many pages the thread has gone.
One page - check it out
Two pages - might be some useful discussion
Three or more - guaranteed it's a p-ssing match between the usual combatants.*
My preferences are set to 30 posts per page so you might have to adjust your actual page count accordingly.
*unless the title suggests there might be pictures of half nekkid wimmen - then the more pages the better!

I think, in essence, that it's fun for some guys to stake out a position on the margins, and then wave their freak flag high...
... and woe be unto any that dare trespass on their little hill.
Deer hunting with a .223 or hunting with a hot vs. cold chamber spring quickly to mind. In each case a very small minority, made a very big stink, and in each case any disagreement with their position is met with instant bile and venom.
My skin has thickened around here to the point that I frankly don't care what anyone says any more, short of insulting my family like that punk Paul Walukewitz. And even then, I mention it to get a poke at him in, not because I really care.
I think the "solution", if there is one (there ain't, but let's pretend) is for for the small group of guys who regularly take things negative around here, to chill out a little and grow up a lot.
And, for the rest of us to get thicker skin and/or just don't engage those guys. It plays right into their hands, and it takes two to tango. Don't dance with them, or if you do, don't get upset when they call names and act about 10 years old- because they will.
