Comparing a concealed carry to a hunting rifle is absurd. last i checked deer don't run in gangs trying to mug/rape/murder people. You do what you want. i don't really give a crap. i'll hunt cold and be happily content with it. My kids will do the same.

I could give a flip what folks do, in fact I'm happy for folks to be shooting themselves, what always amazes me is the 'If A then Z' type conclusions and rationalization.

People try anything to rationalize their decisions. Whatever helps them sleep at night.

If it isn't loaded it won't go bang.

This is just leaving me shaking my head, guns are always loaded, whether or not they are or not.

When I shoot a gun, it is loaded, carrying a gun is not shooting, hence the chamber is empty.

Sitting on stand waiting for game isn't shooting either,so can we assume that you have an empty chamber while sitting on stand?

I believe that the assertion that folks would automatically be safer "cold" is just such an 'A => Z' rationalization. There's been two examples given just on this thread.

Further, someone else said it well on that other thread- hard to argue with saferererer. smile Maybe cold is incrementally saferererer. So? We all take risks every day that dwarf the difference between safererer and saferererer.

The common ground that I think we all share is that we all agree that if the terrain or situation demands it, you unload the dang gun.

It is safer without one in the chamber.

... unless your gun handling goes to [bleep] because you "know" it's empty, an example of which was reported on the Rem trigger thread.

... or unless you spaz out working the action under stress. An example of THAT was reported on this thread.

You aren't gonna do those things. I don't think I would. But they'd happen, and those things would debit against whatever small safety incremental "credit" we might achieve if we all went saferererer.

IMHO.

Your attempt at logic is circular, Steelhead.

More to the point, it doesn't address the real, concrete examples I raised from the personal experiences that folks posted.

So, you whiffed. I'm pretty sure you'll swing again though. wink

I'd be willing to bet that a lot more accidental discharges are caused by loaded guns than unloaded guns.
Just 'cause some idiot thinks it's unloaded, don't make it so.
An unloaded gun will not A.D., never, ever, ever.

Then the safest solution is to never load the gun.And if you never shoot anything, you never have to worry about field dressing or packing out the carcass. grin

That ignores the fact that a high percentage of gun accidents happen with guns that people were just SURE were unloaded.

What else would you expect someone to say after they just killed their buddy or wounded themself...
It's called passing off the blame.

Very similar to, "I swerved to miss a deer", after you put your Honda civic in the rhubard.....

Can't help that brand of stupid.
And it's a piss poor extrapolation of logic to believe that therefore a loaded gun is as safe.

I think it's an inappropriate extension of logic to assume that gun handling will remain a constant if people carry hot vs. cold.

But again, we are in the realm of arguing safererer. You win; an unloaded gun is safererer. So? About 80% of us are happy just being saferer. grin
