Dobetown:
Rawlins is about 40 miles from Saratoga on the highways. That makes it about 65 miles from the Jack Creek Crew Quarters if you drive through Saratoga. So, factoring in some slow driving on dirt roads, I bet the round trip will take 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
However, if we can connect to the Sage Creek Road (WY Hwy 71) through Twin Groves, it's only about 30 miles from the Crew Quarters to Rawlins.
Is there anything worth seeing in Baggs? I drove through there once and IIRC there wasn't much there.

Time wise its way less than an hour from Saratoga to Rawlins. Jack creek dirt roads would add a little more but not two hours Wyoming time. Next time I go over there I will drive it and time it. Baggs doen't have much, one of the alleged "Butch Cassidy's cabin". In wild flower time the drive from Baggs, Dixon over the top to Encampment is well worth it. If you get to Craig the Western History museum is well worth it.

The encampment museum is a good one also, where else can you find a 2 story out house, (I'll post a pic if I can find it) I'm not sure but I heard they were doing road work on 71 this summer.

Well as many of you know my Buick Century headed south. So I'm leasing a Honda Accord. Goes like a bat of H... and is actually a pretty decent car. I have to give back the car in three years in a saleable condition. Will this Honda Accord handle the Jack Creek road without damage to the car? Should I rent a SUV? My wife is worried that we'll damage the car on the gravel roads. I told her that road should be well maintained at least to the crew quarters. The worry comes from the fact that the Forest Service roads for the most part in Montana aren't fit for four wheel drive to say nothing of two wheel drive. Sorry for the rant. Rant button off for now.

Tim, I really think you should rent a SUV, fill the back up with beer and ice....and...well, you know the rest. The best kind of car to do that with is a rented car.... Ingwe

It could go either way but, to play it safe I'd get the SUV, I would be more worried about stone damage from other trafic that may go by. The road normally is not rutted. it a well used road but it is gravel.

Derby, the roads shouldn't be that bad if you take it easy, unless it snowed or rained recently, then they could still be wet or rutted -- who knows about that until the last few days?
But you can bring the Honda anyway, and I, or somebody else, probably would be glad to haul you the last little ways from Saratoga or Rawlins, I'm sure. I come from the East, so I'm game on the Saratoga side.
If you want to go that way, we could just set up a time to meet in Saratoga, ( I don't know about cell service at Jack Creek. Is there any gotlost?) I'm sure we could find a safe place to park the Honda if it is bad up the hill.
I'd be happy to give you guys a lift, if you don't mind old pickups (there is a shell for your gear too), and the roads are bad. Or I'll follow you up, and if you chicken out and want to go back, I'll go back with you to park the car.
More the likely, it'll all be fine, but just in case.
Too many people buy stuff they don't want, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like!
