I have handled the Rossi 454 and 480. They seem crudely finished and hence over-priced. I could see paying $300 for one, but not $500.
The 500 Linebaugh is a shortened 50 Alaskan, and hence there is only one action suitable for it, the Mdl 71.
I sure wish I could get a 480 lever as a companion to my revolver. I figure 400 gr @ 1500 fps should work ok <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
there is only one action suitable for it So we are dicounting the Browning BLR all together
or the Winchester Mod 86.....
The Browning BLR
Will handle a 50-110 Wichester
so wil lthe 1886 ...... and i would trust the Browning BLR
wayyyyyyyy before i would a mod 71.
And as for the Marlin Lever Action you can and i have shot super heavy load's through it all day long .
and i mean SUPER heavy load's..
I have also taken mine and one other to a gunsmith to have
the head spacing checked just to make sure i was not over doing it ......Zip noda ....
Before you under rate the marlin lever action
( mine's a GS 45/70 ) take one out for a walk..
