I'm thinking Cub has sense enough to go with a 1-8" twist, unlike some others I know but won't mention by name. Gonna be 1:9". Just shootin deer bullets. .

Jiminy Christmas! I have a M700 CDL 280 Remington with 24 inch tube... the stock is too pretty to bang up in the woods (altho I already have), and I just feel the need to swap out that stock for something lighter and more durable... The rifle is currently sporting a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40 in talley ltwt rings... comes a little under 8 lbs at the moment, with sling... So... I need to sort out the stock as the first order of bidness... I guess just do a websearch on the Bell and Carlson website? Or keep an eye on the classifieds? thanks

Dogger,
Don't feel like you have to flute the bolt or hollow the bolt handle for a faux Ti build - that's not going to save you much weight, and IMHO if you are going to spend the money to flute the bolt and hollow the bolt handle, you might as well save a little more money and buy a used Ti to have an even lighter rifle.
I think the reason Remington chose to flute the bolt on the Titanium was more to reduce surface area so the bolt was easier to move (a little smoother working) than to reduce weight. In my experience, the Remington stainless or chrome-moly actions are smoother than the Titanium actions.

Dogger,
From what I've read, I expect that you would have to open up the barrel channel of a Ti stock for it to fit on a CDL barreled action because the Ti stocks are made for the mountain rifle contour barrel. You might keep an eye on the Classifieds for one that someone had already opened up for a sporter-weight barrel.

Do the Bell and Carlson stocks #2461-22 and #2462-22 pass the Campfire cut for such a Faux Ti?

I just weighed by M700 CDL 280 with Zeiss 3-9x40 (without ammo and sling) and it is 7lb 14oz. The Ruger M77 300RSAUM w/ Vortex Viper 3-9x40 tips the scales at 8lb 7oz. There has to be an inexpensive way to "faux" these hogs to push down the weight. Gad.

Here is mine. Ditched the SPS stock for an Alaskan from Stocky's. Next the bolt goes off to Kampfeld, have someone bed it, call it good.

OK Guys, Answer me this, why has everybody gone too mix & not match ? You've got a stainless rifle with black bases/rings with a black scope. What's the deal ?? It's 4:55 AM and I'm not thinking straight. First cup of coffee. 30-06 Mountain Rifle 22" Barrel. Ken

Deer don't see the black scope as well. They think the rifle is open sighted so they aren't as wary. Bruce

Cause I think the matte scope/rings/stock match up well and look good and have yet to see a stainless barrel/rings/scope match up at all. Always, from what I've seen, different shades and doesn't look right. Just me though... OK Guys, Answer me this, why has everybody gone too mix & not match ?
