I saw the thread names "one rifle, one scope, one cartridge, one bullet" and it made me think about a target that I shot yesterday at 100 yards with my .25-06. I have a few bullets loaded up this year to hunt Whitetails and I wanted to compare POIs between the bullets. I therefore, loaded up five different bullets and shot a group with one of each load at 100 yards and 200 yards. Here is the 100 yard target.

[Linked Image]

1. 100g Etip, 2. 100g Hornady Interlock FB, 3. 100g NBT, 4. 100g Speer Spitzer, 5. 100g Scirocco.

All 5 bullets went into a .8MOA group. (Etip/HIL/NBT went into a 0.3MOA group). I guess I can just grab which ever bullet and be ready to go. (The 200 yard group looked very similar). Good thing I have multiple tags this year for terminal ballistics testing.

I think I have a sickness, cant just pick one bullet and be done with it. frown

Guess I might just be a "loony".

They all weigh the same. And similar profiles. What did you expect?

Ky, that's pretty cool, and IME a bit unusual. Enjoy your good fortune!

Ubetcha!

Several rifles I own will do groups similar to that. Two of them with multiple bullet weights. I picked a base load and if you pick a base load and fooled with the velocities a little.

Most often a Core-Lokt/Hornady Interlock and a Nosler Partition
as I load those the most. I shoot some TBBC's but almost entirely as factory loads since the bullet pricing is such that it makes no sense to reload them.

My little 7 rig does that with quite a few loads.

Things change though, out at 500 yds..

ky,

Let me guess...Tikka T3? wink

I have a pic of a Tikka .25-06 that did the same thing, except is was a 100gr TSX, 120gr Federal Fusion, 110gr AB, 100gr Sierra GK, and 100gr CL.

Jordan, actually a Ruger M77 Tang action with a Pac-Nor 3 groove barrel. Good to see your Tikka doing the same thing.

I am pretty pumped that I can grab and go and not worry about differing POI out to 300 yards with multiple bullets.

I have preached it for years - and finally somebody is listening.
To at least 200 yards, any bullet of the same weight and same profile will hit identically to the next - as long as you use the same case, powder, primer.

There is no reason to use those expensive bullets, bonded bullets etc to shoot a poor defenseless whitetail deer.
All that those people are doing is making the bullet manufacturers rich and spending needless amounts of money on something that the magazine writers tells them they have to have.

Any time a bullet manufacturer wants me to endorse their product, all they have to do is send me a couple thousand of their premium bullets for me to try.. Hint Hint - and I will sing like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir..
Until then, I will shoot what ever is on sale and laugh all the way to the bank!

Good deal of truth in what Duquen sez. Folks that curl their lips and say "I only shoot my hunting bullet" are missing the boat when it comes to off season practice with cheap bullets. You may say there is only pennies difference but multiply that by several hundred by several rifles and it can be a nice piece of change.
And any scope adjustment (if any) you have to make when you switch from the cheap stuff to the premium bullets is gonna be minor

Not surprising to me.

120 TSX's share a POI with Hornady 120 Varmints, and 162 Amax's hit 2" higher at 100 yards than both. Has made for simple drop charts, laminated front to back and strung onto the rangefinder lanyard.

This is so true and I have no idea why everyone does not practice with a cheaper slug all year, check zero with your hunting bullet, and hunt with your whatever.....been doing it that way for about 3 decades.

I doubt the 10 Partitions I use to check zero and shoot something will cause a national deficit.

I will GUARANTEE that a 165 gr. Interbond will not shoot like a 165 gr. Accubond out of my .30-06, same case primer and powder charge. BTDT..

Nor will a 165 speer HC or GS.

I could get into what my M7 shoots, but I think I'll just point out that someone who was calling LR primers "Long Rifle" like douchebeer was, is really full of chit.

If one finds themselves siding with Douchebeer, one should go take a long look in the mirror. Because that guy, is a [bleep] moron.

Too true Rancho. Actual real world experience has shown me that what ky's 25-06 did with those 5 different bullets (of the same weight) is not typical.

My opinion of Duquensebeer.

Ok, the guy posts a lot of stuff most long time readers of the fire disagree with - and rightfully so.

BUT, he ain't a bad guy at heart like some of the trolls.

Just sayin'

I'm not in here just to see how many folks I can pointlessly bad mouth while not bringing anything to the table myself but my real world experience is that I can shoot half a dozen different bullets of a like weight, same case, same powder charge, etc, through my 30-06 and they will strike close enough that in a pinch, you wouldn't need to resight the rifle in order to kill something out to say 300 yards.

And, I've a couple of rifles that will shoot different weight bullets into the same group at 100 yards.

Rancho: No, I have not had great luck with Interbonds my self;but 130 Sierra's and 130 Partitions go to the same group, and same POI to 400-500 yards for me. This has generally worked in 7mm and 30 aliber as well.

Ditto my 375 which puts 250 Sierra's and 250 Bitterroots the same place.
