Montucky 7 WSM. Because I can bring my ammo with me and don't need to worry about "buying factory ammo in the corner mom and pop gas station/grocery"...

Theres a lot of cartridges that would be fine for me, I'll choose the 7rem mag.
I just browsed the other posts, not reading all of them completely.
Wade.
Has enough time passed yet for us to explain the why we chose whqat we did and write about the rifles yet?

I am assuming that means I will only have the ammo I take with me, with no chance of obtaining more ammo or materials to make more ammo.

I am talking a round I can use in both a pisol and long gun. It's 1800, so I don't need any long distance capablity when shooting and I want something for close in work against a bear or wolves if I am attacked.

9mm, 44-40 or such. Whatever allows me to carry the mostest shots.

Nice to see a 10yr old thread dusted off. Great way to ring in the new year Jim. smile

Lets see,
Since this is a "time machine" scenario in the 1800s, go ahead and make it 1836. I've gotta live out my long time fantasy of fighting at the Alamo with a modern rifle. Make mine a .223/5.56 with how ever many cases of ammo I can fit in the trunk of my Delorean.

BTW, I realize I hijacked a Big Game fantasy thread, but I've had the Alamo itch since I was a little kid.

I think i would rather have a suit-case full of antibiotics and just use a muzzle loader from the era.
