Bottom line with all of this is this - The 660 is a really nice litle rifle. Can even fit in with todays standards. The worst part of them was not the nylon bottom that warped, but was that terrible pressed depressed checkering that can sometimes look like 2 Fat Ladies from the Mohawk Valley helped the press out while haveing a coffe break.

The 660 has a longer and heavier barrel than the 600. Mine comes in at 7 lbs 3 oz. with scope.
I believe that the 600 had a lighter and shorter barrel. I think that it came in less than 6 lbs sans scope.
I think Remington increase the weight and length on the barrel of the 660 because of recoil complaints on the lighter 600 esp in .308.

I have a 660 in 308 - stock except for recoil pad.
What a great little gun: accurate with just about anything you can feed it, light weight, and that dogleg bolt fits nicely in a scabbard. My youngest son took his first moose with it when he was 11 years old. I don't use it much, but I'm not likely to part with it, either.
