+1 on Remington Sub-sonic HP's. They are more accurate than a Short and do great with pistols and with a supressor.

My last usage of them was knocking a Raccoon out of a pecan tree with an 8 3/8" S&W K-22. He was sitting in a fork, 50' off the gound. The only shot was at his butt. When hit, he growled and clawed the tree bark for a bit, then hit the ground. A head shot finished him.

Sub-sonics shoot little bitty groups out of my Walther barreled 10-22 and my Cooper. They're my first choice for squirrels.

Excellent. I prefer them in several of my .22s.

I like CCI ammo, too. I haven't tried their .22 LR Subsonic. The Remington Sub-Sonic is pretty good, IMHO. How do you see CCI's as "much better". I'm not a Remington advocate, just curious.

More accurate, more consistent, and more effective on game (wide meplat, softer lead, better expansion).

Get him a 28 ga and he will kill more squirrels with less crippling .

Or, just go with a 20 gauge, and at least give him some ammunition flexibility.

I have found that the CCI MINI-mags are always very accurate in anything I have shot them out of. Kills very well also.
Tried the Remington Subs and found them very inconsistant with 3 or 4 misfires every box.
Settled on the Mini Mags as they are accurate ,kill well and I can buy them for $6.00 a hundred almost anywhere I go,Miss,AR,Tenn.

I never had a problem with the Rem Sub-Sonics. I like subsonic because I use a suppressor and those don't have the supersonic "crack". I will check out the CCI's.

In the great debate about subsonic hollow points, I have the best accuracy with Eley subsonics, followed by Lapua and very very distantly, Remington. I have not tried any others.

I suppose it all depends on how one's rifle is chambered and what its dimensions might be. But for sure, I much prefer ANY hollowpoint over those damn hypervelocity pieces of crap.

I like a subsonic to keep the sound down but don't like hollow points.

I know most people seem to want a hollow point but don't like how they tear up squirrels and the solids kill fine when you place them where you should.

I use Wolf Match. It may cost more than Walmart bulk ammo, but its extremely accurate in my 10/22 and 1 shot per squirrel = less than 50 cents of ammo for a hunt.

I load my Savage 24 with cheap Federal bulk 22's and Remington one ounce #5's. I kill squirrels with the 20ga. The 22 goes along for the ride, a man needs to know his limitations.

Works well in my Marlin 39A, but hard to find.

I have a Lakefield bolt action 22 that will cut holes with Remington hollow points. Don't think anything else can do much better than that....one shot per squirrel is the norm. I'll take hollow points any day, quick kills and more potent should I run across a local coyote.

I've been using winchester wildcat ammo in my Savage MK. 2 with good results.
Whats everyone else using?

I use standard velocity LR solids for squirrels as I only try for head shots and these are the most accurate in my scope sighted Mossberg 46-B.

LR hollow points are a bit much and if one can do the head shots they just are not needed.

Winchester Power Points because it's the most accurate in my T-Bolt.

Does make a mess on body shots.
