Just pick up a new 243 with a 1-10 twist. I need 2 good bullet recommendations for this rifle. Rifle will only be used for woodchucks and coyote.

55 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip fast, deadly, accurate.

60s over a stiff H414 charge was one hole in my AII Sako sporter.

70s over Varget or IMR4350

87 Vmax over either 4350 for reach/wind.

The heavier the more impact and better wind resistance...all will do. Just how far do you want to shoot, and how windy...

I haven't found any bad bullets in a 243....so pick your poison...

I admit to shooting a lot of Hornady 75 grain HPs tho..

they use to be cheap, plentiful and do an excellent job... both accurate and deadly...

plenty good enough for Antelope sized Blacktails...even without ratcheting up their MV...

Big time the way I'd fly, that or the 70 TNT and no flies on the 75 VMax either. Try a couple and let your rig tell you which way to fly.

What kind of ranges you gonna be driving them at?

I use 70 gr Sierra MatchKings and 70 gr Nosler ballistic Tips out of all of my 243s and 6mm Remingtons.

Haven't found a rifle yet that won't shoot either one of them just fine.

And I use them on groundhogs all the time. smile

My 223 has the short range calling 0-350 yards so this 243 will be from 300-500 yards. My 223 shoots 50gr v-max very well but wind starts playing with it at 300. So this one should need to buck the wind better.

70gr Sierra Blitzking is another good choice. They run great thru my .243win-10 twist.

Of various bullets tried, in my nephew's rifle the 58 gr V-Max is the most accurate varmint bullet. In my rifle the 65 gr V-Max is the most accurate, with the heavier and lighter V-Max's close behind. I settled on the 75 gr V-Max as my "standard" as it's point of impact was where I wanted it in relation to the heavier deer bullets without having to touch the scope.

I tried to find a good load for the 70 gr NBT, but, while still quite good, it came in fourth place behind the three V-Max bullets in my particular rifle. There are so many good bullets available that it would almost be impossible to find the "best" one. Have fun.

I am with Seafire on the Hornady 75 HP bullets. Using 4350, the gun shoots sub minute groups at 200 yards. Although I really had to work up carefully to find the right load.

have had and shot several .243's. how i go about it is load to the length where you just contact rifling. shows tiny marks on the bullet but will not get stuck.

remington 9.5 primers, 41 to 43 grains varget with the 60 grain sierras.

same everything but 36 to 38 grains varget with the 85 sierras. h4350 works with the 85's too.

have yet to have one that wouldn't shoot 1/2" or so with this recipe.
