Sorry I didn't weigh in earlier - spent too much time at camp last week doing this Instead of this But the locals like my new wood rack and wood pile

Pugs,
Wow! Looks like great progress was made.
But who is the guy in short pants that you got to do the work for you?

Steve Wish I could have found someone to do it but Moira finds I work for light wages. Feed me occasionally and keep my hop and barley count up and it gets done. Lots left to do but the shed (8'x24') is done and starting to get organized.

maddog,
Thanks for the bump and the pics.
As I had mentioned earlier, I have no interest in shooting an exotic, but enjoyed the living daylights out of seeing them at the Wilderness. All in all, they made for a pretty interesting Boar hunt, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm pretty sure I would not like to shoot a 45-70 pistol, but I sure would like to see you(or anyone else) shoot one.
Gotta be some kind of serious recoil there.

I shot my friends once, dead in the ten ring at 50 yards, the second shot hit the dirt about 25 yards in front of me! There was no 3rd shot.

Normal trapdoor level loads aren't really bad with it. Its a big shove, and you certainly feel it whack your palm even when held tight. I made the mistake of trying some of the LeverEvolution loads in it... The pistol handled them fine, I on the other hand didn't care for them. That was a 325gr FTX pushed to 2150fps spec'ed from a 16" barrel. Its quite violent when you touch one of those off. (This is the load Mudhen fired). I still have 4 rounds of those, and about zero desire to shoot them....
I think a nice hard cast 420grn WFN loaded to trapdoor levels would probably be pretty effective on a water buff.

ATKMTnhuntr(or something like that)
Have 12 hunters signed up so far, which is pretty good for a hunt that is still six months away.
I do think we will have a Spring explosion when the late winter, early spring kicks in and we all need a reason to go out and shoot something, especially a wild boar.
But the most important part of these hunts has been the need, and joy, of getting together as a Campfire, and just having a helluva good time.
It is happening.

OK, we need some frame of reference here.
I shot a pig(a small one for eating) in the head as it and two buddies headed down a track. Another hunter, about 30 yds past me, shot at one of the other two, and strangely enough, missed. That hunter had not marked the path of the pig he shot at, but I had, and followed where it went for about 60 yards. No spoor or blood. So I returned to the pig I shot, and it was still moving, but not much. I put the muzzle of the rifle I was shooting( A Marlin 35Rem I bought from JB) near it's head to finish it off.
That is when George claimed I made a Mafia hit on the hog.
Must be a New York thing.
But George is great company, and hope he joins us again.
Steve
