Hi I bought some new cases for my 50-70. problem is that the bullets sized to .512 can be pushed in the cases by hand and pulled out. I have to put a heavy crimp on them but still feel that I am not getting a good powder burn like i do in the cases I made from 348 winchester cases. I have RCBS dies the same that I have always used. so question..has any one else had this problem. do you think the case walls are too thin.? or should I size the bullets bigger,,the bullets string in a vertical line and I some times have unburned powder in the barrel and it smokes like crazy. probly from partly burned powder .I have changed primers and powder to no avail. I bought a new Lb of a differant powder. and will try it this week. so any one that has had that problem what did you do to solve it.. Are you compressing the charge of BP, under a .060 fiber wad?

Nothing in the world wrong with a "thumbseat", or " pushfit " load, All of my reamers are set up / designed to give this feature.................and we took down a Gold medal at this years BPCR Nationals, with that system.

It's nice to leave the brass alone , after initial fireforming, it will last way longer.................and as you know, the stuff is not exactly cheap.

I am using paradox cartridge powder. and there is no room for a wad and smokeless powder..which says not to use a wad.

Don't have a clue regarding this " paradox" powder.

That cartridge is a barrel of monkey's worth of fun, I've never gotten any great accuracy out of the substitutes, as compared with good honest black...................

I agree. I use Goex BP for my Sharps cartridges and find it to give best results. When I can get it, I like their "cartridge grade" BP. It compacts nicely through a 24"drop tube. Fouling isn't too bad. Accuracy pretty nice.

Swiss, Goex, Scheutzen, Wano , Elephant, Kik. I've tested 'em all. That's a broad spectrum, in both quality and price, too.

Conesieurs can argue 'til the cows come home, as to their respective merits...........................but any one of them can outshoot the substitutes.

Oh , for the days of Curtis and Harvey's. That was fine stuff.

BTW.........Goex has a " New Process" powder out,costs a mite more than the regular.....................but word is that Coonie has'nt been able to glom onto any, in weeks. Wonder if Katrina did the Goex plant in???

I know nothing about the paradox issues, but Goex survived Katrina just fine according to Bill Bagwell.

Sorry .It's pyrodex my misspell. I will have to find where it says not to use a card. to tighten my bullets I made me a sizer to reduce the first part of the case by an additional 2 thousands then run the inside sizer to flare the mouth for loading. now the bullet is really tight. I also found an article that says that the 50-70 has to have a heavy crimp for proper ignition . which I also put on. and I have been able to shoot cloverleafs at 50 yds now.pyrodex or black powder is the most accurate (over smokeless powder) . I may try triple7 as I have heard a lot about it. I also used some of the 50 cal banded? bullets. and they are super accurate with the smokeless powder I am going to do more when the time permits on them. right now I am busy getting my grandson ready for deer season, he needs some more range time..but nothing beats a pair of 12 year old 20/20 eyes, I am really hopeful for him...
