Has anyone actually checked velocity of recent production Federal 270 Win with 150 Nosler Partition? Please provide barrel length and velocity.

Rin, no idea and will be interested to hear from anyone that has... my bet is around 2,675 - 2,725 (max) in a 22" bbl.

I shot the old Weatherby Norma 270 Win. 130gn load over my pact model 1 and got 2720. Noama is usualy hotter than most so I doubt you will see much over 2700 if that.

In a match-grade 24" barrel, would you expect factory ammunition to make the claimed figures?

I rarely shoot factory ammo. Only factory 270 Win ammo I have shot and chronied in my 22 inch Model 70 was green box 150g Core-loct at about 2600 fps.

podunk: JOC used the 150's! wink

58.5 WW II H4831 for 2950 in a 22" M70 barrel. He shot bool elk and a bunch of African and Indian game with them.

Bob Lee, an old JOC compadre, and NY businessman (also owned a piece of a safari company)used the same load to kill a bunch of lions in Africa. whistle

I remember him saying in 'The Hunting Rifle' IIRC that the. 270 was born to shoot 130 grain bullets, if one desired 150 grain bullets they should get an '06.... but maybe im 'misremembering'..... grin

Funny, I'm one that thinks the 140/150's are the 270's "natural" weights... but I digress.

Just pulled out some data from 1996... I ran an entire box of WW 150 Power Points through my 22" M70 Fwt. Chron'd them all.

Velocity was 2,640-2,702 fps for an average of 2,680 fps for all 20 shots.

Dat's pitiful!

I would expect the Fedral 150 Partition load will be similar...

Brad - I agree, 2700 fps, 150s in 270 is pitiful.

I am finishing off a box of WW 270 PP in 130 gr to have the brass. They graphed +/- 2900 fps in my Tikka 22 7/16" bll.

I've SELDOM graphed factory ammo that even came close to adv.

If you want performance - hand load!

The 270 Win is famous why?..130 grain bullets and the 30-06 is not famous for 200 grain bullets either,is it?

Period!

I guess I am not sure why the need for speed and heavy for caliber bullets...If a guy needs heavier bullets than the standard caliber weights that made them famous, why not move up in caliber?

Why would a guy buy a 270 winchester and shoot 160 grain bullets when he could buy a 30-06 and have the golden standard 180 grain bullets...

The 270 Win is famous for 130 grainer's not 150's and the '06 for 180's...Todays and yesterday's 130 grain bullets in the 270 work just dandy if you don't push the velocity way over the intended speed of the bullet.

In saying all this,I have seen more Elk killed with the 270 Win than anyother caliber with 95% being of the 130 flavor.

I own 2 270's and have shot alot of game with both...There never was one time I thought I needed a 150 grain Nosler over a 130 grain..Not once...

But thats just me having shot the 270 for over 50 years..To each his own.

110,120,130,135,140,150,160 they'll do the job if they're put together fairly well. Take the one you choose to use, go elk hunting, stick it in a proper place and one will be dining on elk for the year.

An undisclosed amount of H4831 behind a 130gr. Partition works for me. Not the most accurate load out of my old Model 70, but it's a killer.

Bull Chit.........

Yeah if you get the perfect broadside and hit no bone or a head shot.....

How many Elk have you seen shot with 110 grain bullets to make such a statement?Kinda like 130's in the '06..No way jose and I saw it with good shots.

Just my opinion having seen many/many Elk killed with the 270 Win.
