Would have been illegal in Texas.

Why would it be illegal to shoot this deer in Texas?

Willowcreek, because some of the counties in east and central Texas have the stupid special antler restrictions. Bucks either have to have atleast one unbranched antler on an inside spread of 13" or greater.

Hard to tell a kid no when its their first chance for a buck and the nice little 8 pointer is only 12-12 1/2".

Luckily I hunt in two counties 45 minutes apart one has the restrictions and the other doesn't any buck is legal.

I understand deer management and all but I think a kid should be exempt atleast for their first deer.

Anyway my count so far is,

160 lbs Russian boar with a 223 Rem
3 point 105 lbs WT spike with a 250 Savage
2-110 lbs WT does with a 223 Rem
6 point 140 lbs WT buck with a 223 Rem

Add in my boys ages 10 and 7

9 point 152 lbs WT buck .357 Mag Carbine 10 year old son
105 lbs WT spike with a 223 Rem 7 year old son

7 critters 7 bullets so far more to come...

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Just came in from my last deer hunt of the 2011 season, just the one whitetail that was pictured above several posts back. Going to duck hunt a swamp in the morning and go bird hunting on Monday (hope to find a few wild covey's on a state gameland that is dedicated to upland bird production). Then it is off to Arkansas on the 12th of JAN for some flooded timber mallard hunting. Back home for swan, then switch to rabbits in late JAN/ early FEB. Lots of good hunting still to come.

A week after that shot a spike buck with my muzzleloader.

On the fifth day of our gun season in November I shot a buck with a really impressive left antler and a really unimpressive right antler. Used my Belgium Browning BAR 30-06.

Saturday I shot a button buck with my 7mm mag.

I can still shoot a couple more does with my muzzleloader plus a couple of bucks and unlimited does with my bow. It ain't over yet!

I added another muzzleloader deer Saturday still hunting style.

Started early w/ a fat soy-fed doe during our antlerless-private land-only season in September. Shot her w/ my Ruger Redhawk 44 mag.

Then on the second Friday of our late muzzle loader season I shot a dink buck w/ my new (to me) .45 cal in-line.

This past Saturday I was out for our late antlerless-private land-only season hunting w/ my AR and due to the ubber-high mounted scope shot a hole in my blind & blew over a small tree 10 ft in front of me. In spite of the good penetration of the 55 gr Hornady Spire Point, that doe out at 100 yds or so was as safe as at home in bed...

oh well... 2 deer is pretty good, and should keep me and my 5 kids well fed.

Our government has given up on managing deer, they are more into selling licences in recent years. Our deer population took a big hit from winterkill last year, but the government is still selling antlerless whitetail tags throughout the southern area of the province, along with an either - sex tag. Our seasons should be restricted for a few years, not two tags for every hunter! I hunted whitetails a few days this year, but passed up the survivors that I saw. I already had an elk, moose, bear, and a couple of mule deer in the freezer, couldn't see any good reason to add a scarce whitetail to the pile.

I only shot one nice doe, she gave me 58 lbs of meat packaged. I was only looking for nice bucks after that and didn't see any thing worthwhile after that. I hunt a relatively small piece of land so I don't want to shoot too many deer until I figure out the true size of thr resident herd. Outside of that I been making a good dent in the squirrel and raccoon population as of late. The land owner leaves for the winter and has issues with them getting into his out buildings and tearing them up so he appreciates the off season 22 work.
