This is a gathering not to be missed.

You may need a password and an armed escort, however.

I'm in, along with my lovely lady companion.

As promised in the "Cane Syrup" thread, I'll bring along some real cane syrup a sampler for those who know only honey, maple syrup, and sorghum molasses.

But somebody'll hafta remind me to bring it!

(BTW, it's SIRup, not SEERup real Southern yum, the basis for good rum, yes, sir!)

OK Ken,I did what you asked and read the sticky.I'll plan on being there as I told you earlier.A word of warning, though:

I notice that transplanted East Texan with all the letters and numbers in his screen handle is planning on being there too.We don't git along worth a damn.

He shoots one of them black rifles with a handle instead of a stock like most God-fearing fellers do.Did you know THAT and invite him anyhow?

Worser than THAT,he is corrupting our youngun's by letting them shoot 'em.And [I know that given my 'fire reputation,it's not needed].... I got PROOF :

It could be that our trails to Quemado will merge and only one of us will show up.

That's just how it goes here in the West.

Hey!!! I resemble those remarks! I seem to recall some bad habits of yours that are as bad, of not worse than mine!

Ken, this fellow impunging my spotless reputation is selfish beyond belief! He had to be FORCED to allow someone else to help with the cooking! Not only that, he made us all listen to him pick his git-fiddle! AND he forced my nephew to shoot his custom rifle and handloaded ammo without making my nephew pay for anything!

Maybe you 'n' I can take turns ploppin' 'im down 'n' sittin' on 'im for the sake of peace and got anything to stuff in his mouth?

I'm getting PM and e-mail inquiries about accommodations in Quemado, and have two wee bits of information that should be on this thread for the benefit of those who're wondering

Google "largo motel quemado new mexico," and you'll find several on-line sources of information about the Largo.

I have two good single beds already available and hope to have the clutter (or enough of it!) cleared out of one of the back bed rooms to set-up my double bed.

Those who were here earlier know that there's no boozery in Quemado, so they know to bring their own beer 'n' booze.

edited to add

Nobody's name is on either of these beds yet so it's first-come-first-served
except of course for the first one who hollers ahead of arrival.

I have stayed at the Largo Motel and can vouch for the comfort & cleanliness of the rooms. Nothing fancy, just a good place to put your head down for the night.

The food at the cafe there is also first rate.

Ken, your "clutter" is treasure to some of us! grin

They sell booze at that cafe up the road from the lake. My hunting partner and I went there (still covered in blood) after skinning out a critter in October!

I'll put it on the work calender!

Folks, if you're thinking about going; DO IT. Its a fun time and a chance to meet some great folks!

IIRC, the peak participation last year was something like twenty-two Campfarts.

(a) The consensus of their enthusiastic comments ("I shall return! with my family!"),
(b) the photos of that gathering and the beautiful setting (Quemado Lake) posted afterward,
and
(c) the show of interest and intent by other 'fire members since then,
all encourage my hope that we'll see the gathering of at least twice as many great guys 'n' gals this year. That'd be at least forty-four!
I can't think of one whom I'd wish'd stay home.
laugh

What better opportunity can there be to meet and to enjoy in-person fellowship with the cream of the 'fire's finest gentlemen (and some of their outstanding angels) in the total absence of trolls?

We'll just have to live with two great inevitable griefs

those who can come but don't
those who'd love to come but can't

We'll miss 'em! cry

Well, Ken, I have the event on my calendar and I am trying to make it!

It looks like 5027 miles for me to get from northern Sweden to Albuquerque. If I can re-arrange my schedule so that I can attend, I will do the calculations to Quemado...

It looks like my family is vacationing that week on the coast. Too bad, I have to work.

I plan on attending. If anyone is flying into ABQ and needs a ride, let me know and we will work something out.

Thanks
