Jericho--Been out of town. I re-barreled it with a new surplus Israilie barrel made for a 98 Mauser. The Mexican contract are really rare. I used to collect Arisakas and had some really weird stuff, but I never even saw a Mexican model.

Have 2 Steyr's - one is a Professional now with a Leupold 6x36 scope the other a Luxus with a Zeiss. Both have iron sights and quick release rings.
I seem to always end up taking the wood gun hunting for hogs. 140-150 Partition's just knock em down.

Mine are:
FN Mauser Rem 700 Mountain Ruger M77R MkII (2) Ruger M77R Ruger #1A (3) Ruger #1RSI Remington Rolling Block
Still 4 of those left in the cabinet. Awesome deer cartridge. Did you end up buying new brass? Just curious as to how that issue worked out. Grasshopper gave me a big handfull of loads put up in new brass to try. They chambered OK but i could barely get the bolt open. There was no pressure ring on the case body of fired rounds. It just has a real tight chamber. It is at the 'smith right now. He's pretty busy so haven't heard anything in a couple weeks. I'm thinking the reamer used to chamber it was just too worn out. A gunwriter gave me the idea of lapping the lugs to increase headspace. That is a great idea but I think the problem is the chamber is too small in diameter, not in length. I think we need to chase the chamber with a new[er] reamer to make it a bit bigger. I'll let you know what the 'smith says and what we end up doing to it.
Our God reigns. Harrumph!!! I often use quick reply. My posts are not directed toward any specific person unless I mention them by name.

I've had around 15 7x57's over the years, including a NULA Model 20, a custom rifle on a VZ-24 action I stocked myself in New Zealand walnut, a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle, and several "unmatched pairs": Ruger 1A's (one red pad and one black pad), Ruger 77's (one tang-safety and one Mark II), 95 Mausers (one sporterized and one not), a couple of commercial 98's. Never had more than two at once, unlike rifles in some other chamberings (once had six .30-06's at the same time, and four .250 Savages).
Probably should have kept a few of those, but the one that eventually stuck came along several years ago, a custom rifle on a Montana 1999 action with a stainless Montana barrel, made by what was then Serengeti Rifles with one of their laminated stocks that you can't tell is laminated. The metal is all matte black Cerakoted, and it weighs an ounce under eight pounds with a 4x33 Leupold in Talley lightweights. Have used it quite a bit in both Africa and North America from Old Mexico to Canada, taking game from javelina to bull moose in size, including several deer from Coues to mulies, a bunch of springbok and impala, feral pigs, warthogs, wildebeest, kudu, etc. It might be the one rifle I keep for non-dangerous game when I downsize in semi-retirement. (Don't ever intend to fully retire. What would I do? Go hunting more often?)
Hard to beat the original 7mm!

Unlike John, I have only owned two 7x57's in my life. But I haven't been without one since 1980, 32 years now. I love my Ingwe gun (M-70 Fwt).

Gunplummer, they are very rare, I have never handled one in person. A large gunshop in VA had one for $3500.00 awhile back and I guess they sold it, because I cant find it on their website. A gunshop in my area has a Savage M110WLE in 7X57MM for sale.

Not blooded yet.
Got it covered with the 22 LR, 30-06, and 12 gauge. The rest are just for fun. NRA Life Member Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
