After reading all the posts on rem safetys it's lucky no one got hurt. The issue with the trigger can be fixed with a grinder and the bolt can be opened without taking the safety off. I have done several Rem and done it to my Ruger MK1 pistol. I don't like having to take the safety off to unload my firearms.

Welcome Maico, I'm just the opposite I want my bolt locked by the safety. I sometimes hunt in really heavy bush, and have had the bolt come open and eject shells on my .338 700, so luckily for me it was old enough that it had the groove on the bolt and I bought an old safety from Gunparts Inc. to convert it to lock just like my 700 in 7 mag.

I didn't think the groove existed in the newer Remingtons so wouldn't think your desire would be an issue. But for me prolly no new Remingtons. I figure if I can't unload safely I probably should take up a new hobby anyway. It's evident your mileage varies. But that's okay different strokes for different folks. Again welcome to the campfire. 1ak

Actually there have been at least one death and a number of injuries attributed to the Remington safety. Lawsuits have been filed and a few have been settled out of court for millions. More are pending. Lawdog

Maico:
I share your concern about the Rem 700 safeties. I have 2 older 700s that lock the bolt when the safety is on. I don't carry my rifles with a shell in the chamber, and seldom use the safety, but I recently had my gunsmith CLEAN and adjust the triggers on both of them, and resolved not to put an oil on them. I probably should have had after market triggers installed, but I didn't, so I'm extremely careful, which I should be anyway. Like 1ak says "different strokes for different folks"

I've also had brush open the action and it doesn't take much relative movement before the rifle won't fire either. I found this to be more of an issue with the old 788 than the 700. My but what a 3 position safety wouldn't do for the 700. That way we could all be safe and happy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
