Whatever the expected cost is, triple it.

unbelievable.....the House should pass a resolution affirming that California will never receive a bailout from the US taxpayers. Just as a bitchslap for this kind of foolishness.

and of course, after it's built, it will lose money every year and require constant subsidies of more money they don't have.

Maybe it is time to give California back to Mexico.

I'm guessing that in a few more years they are going to want amnesty for the 100 million illegal aliens that are coming, also.

somebody in the California Government stands to profit from this project or they wouldn't be trying so hard to get it approved and they could care less about the people of California having their taxes raised to pay for it.

When a business goes Tango Uniform, it is broken up and sold off to the highest bidders. Now selling a state probably isn't going to work, but we could break it up.

Since the experiment known as California failed miserably lets make 3 states. LA and south is one state LA and North to SF is another state and SF north is a 3rd state. Start them over and let the folks decide how they really want things done.

Wisconsin had a 2010 governor's race. The liberal candiate supported the former liberal governor's (Jim Doyle) push to take 810 million federal dollars to build a high speed rail between Madison and Milwaukee. The candidate lost to Scott Walker who campaigned to stop it. Walker simply showed the public that the state could not afford the boondoggle and it's upkeep.

Walker asked the Obama administration to earmark the funds for bridges and roads here in Wisconsin. They denied the request.

Oh, Oh, watch out California has been trying for years to find a way to divert the Columbia River along with it's tributaries to So California. They've already in place the power lines to divert the electric power generated by the Bonneville Power Administration to the Bay Area and So California.

It's all about the elected politicans applying pressure on the voters to get there agenda passed.
If the tax proposals aren't passed, education takes the hit, which is most popular with the voters. Of course, teachers won't be laid off, they've already passed a law making that illegal......
The larger cities like San Jose are cutting seriously into police and fire for the same reason. San Jose has lost 30% of it's cops due to a pay cut of 20% and a 20% layoff. The other 10% were those that quit or retired early. They can't even hire back those that were laid off. They have found jobs elsewhere.
Nice, huh. E

Nice thought in the abstract, but in reality you are giving those goofy bastages six US Senators, rather than just two.

I'm afraid California legislators has just dealt the killing blow that will finish California off!

High speed rail in CA reveals just how stupid voters in this state are. This is not about transportation. It's about sinecures.

Why in God's name would anyone take a high speed train when one could hotwire.com a plane ticket for less $$$? Hell, I could probably buy a ticket from LAX to San Francisco for 39 bucks and be there in an hour.

There's always pretty good kickback opportunities when you're throwing around $70 billion or so.

Very perceptive.

Spending money, especially OPM (Other People's Money) allows politicians to BUY VOTES in the labor sector. Spending Federal money allows Californians to avoid thinking about having to pay it back.

High-speed rail here in New Mexico was built by Big Bill Richardson. What a waste of money.

Our new (conservative) governor, bless her heart, SOLD the jet plane that Big Bill bought so that he could campaign in all 56 of the other states, but there are no takers on the RR.

In that the Federal Government is matching funds regardless of administration should give you a hint of how [bleep] this country is. Don't expect Mitt to kick much either.
