You and I could find common ground.

The gov has a role is society and business - establish the sideboards, facilitate the environment to keep business going/growing and operating inside the 'box'. Then get out of the way and let capitalism work.

It is not to provide everything to everybody or dictate "a fair/level playing field for all people". When effort = rewards, a financial disparity will develop. That isn't illegal, or at least it wasn't last night. Today "fairness" will be the mantra for the next 4 years.

The sky isnt falling , it fell along time ago .
But the public is to stupid to know better . ??/ wait didnt our newly re-elected president say something like that ????

And your right it also has a lot to do with morality . But even that decline started long ago when we aloud politicians to dictate to us , what was and was not moral
In fact we even aloud that to happen when we turned away and let then stack the legal deck with a group of people who end up voting 5 to 4 on what the 2nd amendment says .
Its time to accept and realize that this country can only carry on if we separate. Start those proceedings Now in a
peaceful way before we reach the point the we result to blood shed so as the largest % of this country can pull itself away from what it does not believe in

Makes no difference now what should have been done. It is too late. And on coal the O and the EPA are shutting it down at the end of November.

I hope they choke on it.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Condense all the issues down, the one that jumps out is the debt and additional deficit spending that Obama has done over the past 4 years - with more to come. We've certainly rounded the European debt corner. I was pissed at Bush in term 2 for his spending and certainly thought all the people that bitched about Bush would certainly recognize the same pattern with Obama, especially given the greater magnitude.

The thing that especially grates on my nerves is the democrat talking point, and those that repeat the mantra, that demonizes business. To me, this is more of a statment about the person and their associated persona than it is about the evils of business. I've been a business owner and come from a family of small business owners. Most folks would call my family and our extended family "rich" because of their success. What most see is the manifestation of 20 years worth of effort and sacrifice. What they refuse or don't to see is the preceding years it took to get to that point. Americans apparently have reached the point where hard work, sacrifice, and determination mean nothing. That saddens me greatly.

I myself am a bit of an oxymoron - I'm a christian, conservative, govt woker. I manage an office for the Federal Govt. I make a good salary, have good benefits, and have a good retirement ahead of me - if the govt survives. What people see is my salary and associated benefits. What they don't see is my work schedule (50 hrs/wk), the struggles of managing 18 direct reports, the BS from the industry and enviros I deal with daily, etc. They also don't know the rest of the story - undergrad at 23 while working full time, graduate school in the evenings with 4 small kids at home, 2 jobs I've worked most of my adult life, or the hours I've worked to get their, etc. I'm still looking for that cushy 40 hr/wk gov job I get accused of having. In the end, I love what I do or I wouldn't do it.

Professional people are another 'class' of people that most are envious of. What they don't see is the years of developing the craft, mountain of student loan debt, internships/residency, work hours, and sacrifice to establish a business. What people see is the rewards of years of effort and somehow think life isn't fair because they don't have the same.

America is still the land where hard work, perserverance, and raw effort yield a good living. That America, the America I love and grew up in, is coming to an end. Things are rarely as bad or good as they first appear. I'm trusting this is true but right now it doesn't feel that way.

Today, you're the enemy...you have too much and must share it with those who did not swork and sacrifice as you did.The Obama electorate wants what you have accomplished and worked hard to get,as an "entitlement".

Pretty soon the producers will be disheartened, their personal wealth drained;the investors will flea off shore, the economy will continue to sag,and the engine that feeds the monsterous government and entitlement programs will sputter and fail.

And Obama will ask business owners (again).."Why aren't you hiring?".Only an idiot,or idealougue, even asks the question.

What they seem not to know, is that you can twist things with rhetoric, but fundamental rules of economics, like gravity, will never, ever change. No government seems to learn this, until it is too late...even as history continues to tell us this,we have gone down the same failed path. This country is not about to become Greece...it IS Greece, but many times worse.

It seems like only yesterday that we bragged about winning the Cold War.

We didn't win squat!

I think those calling for separation are dreaming. There is no way the Feds will ever let go of their gravy train.

That said, I love the idea and think it may be worth a try. Heck, a fast death is better than a slow one, right?

Spot on Bob. I've worked my azz off for 30+ years building a business. I'm gonna do all I can NOT to play along. I hope my employees like Obama care.

WRONG! The United States is NOT a Democracy, never has been. It is a Representative Republic. Huge Difference, Huge.

Wow. What a [bleep] pity party. It's as if some of y'all didn't realize that this could happen. This wasn't a one-night deal. This has been coming...building. I'm not on Facebook, but my wife is. Some of the comments from Dims on there were startling.

The bottom line is you gotta soldier on. 50% of this country may have voted for this loser, but 50% didn't. We have the House. The Senate is divided. We have to figure out a way to keep the SCOTUS from falling into the hands of the Communists. We have to keep on keeping on.

Some of y'all are surprising me with your utter demoralization. Cowboy up. Your kids are depending on you.

gridlock in Washington isn't always a bad thing.

compromise means more spending, more regulation, more politicians

make the long term Congressmen and Senators ineffective and they lose - and we say goodbye to the Pelosi's, the McConnel's , the Boehner's , the Reids, and introduce a new era of politician that was elected with a mandate to uphold.

Cheer up things are only going to get worse.

The only way to survive is to hunker down and protect as much wealth as possible. If you haven't already think about investing off-shore. The Wife is so distraught she is thinking we should move to New Zealand. (That's not going to happen.)

Be creative and figure ways to maintain and expand wealth in a Socialist economy.

Yes, the USA is a republic (not a democracy), but compromise is still the only way to reach consensus for the good of the country. Life is a series of compromises (think of 4-way stop signs, moving down a crowded corridor, etc.) Someone mus give or nothing gets accomplished. And, we need accomplishment for the economy, debt reduction, etc.

Winnie,

I sincerely wish what you said about our system of check of balances were true but with the Obama administration it's just not reality. He and his cohorts have time and again showed total disregard for our constitution and the laws in place. frown

aside from the National issues, locally, I have suffered some stunning set backs. My County, always a bastion of liberalism, has gone even further into the abyss.
Three new ultra liberal/socialist County Commissioners
New liberal State House of Rep member
Liberal State Senator
two new local tax iniatives passed
State ammendment changes that are against religious freedom, against tax reductions, against raising property tax exemptions
and several other blows to the body politic.

Locally, this election has been a total disaster.
