Originally went to the range with it wearing a King tang sight and then realised I couldn't move the front sight anymore to line it up so I brought it back and put the 56 on it, what a difference!

Probably got 20 guns in 303 Savage but this was the first time I ever really sat down and dialed one in, wondering why I've never done it before.

One thing I miss about scopes though is that the heat from the barrel doesn't blur it like it does the aperture of a peep sight. But then a deer isn't gonna wait for your barrel to cool.

Inquiring minds need to know what 303 load you were using, Nice Shooting! (next yo need to try one of Merit's adjustable apertures, and you can bring the front post into focus!)

Rory,
Sorry to hear you might not make it out this year. Hope it works out, even if only for a few days.

Ya know, my mom, a West Texas ranch gal, got banned from the deer lease after she popped two nice 8-pts in one evening with a Model 94 Centennial Saddle Ring Carbine in 30-30. That also ended the so-called "ladies' weekend" on the lease. "Game hog", I think, was the term the men used.

Showing us those three fine pre-mil Fs headed for the field somehow brought that story to my mind....

I really don't care if I had nothing but a Remington in 30-06, I just wanna get out of town and get to camp!

Wifes driving me nuts, the youngest found her gerbil dead in the cage this morning and hasn't stopped crying yet and a couple of the guys are texting me from camp saying the beer is going down good!

DAMMIT I can't wait till the morning, I think I'll set the alarm for 4 a.m.!

Harry, my bestest hunting buddy, and I will be meeting Dale and his Dad & Mom at the Ft. Worth Restaurant in DuBois, PA. the day (Sunday) before the Opener for brunch as has become a kind of tradition with us.

As always, I'm looking forward to seeing Dale and his Dad once again... and I'll be SURE to give Dale some "heck" if he won't be using his Model 99.

Me? I'm using my pristine 1953 "EG" in .300 Savage... same as always. It wouldn't SEEM like "deer season" if I didn't take my Model 99 into the woods with me on the Opening Day of deer season... geshhhhhh!!! grin

It bothered me that the 99 wasn't ready to go so I made the time put some loads together with TAC and the 200 gr Hornady Spire point. Now to load some more and see if the scope will adjust properly. Either that, or I have to remember to hold 6 inches low and 2 inches left at 50 yds eek

Little off topic, Gary, but that is one huge cedar tree! Nice pic! Now you need to find one like that with a rub on it!
