The "Bad Blood" between those two (Dallas and Pogue) was well known, and lent a certain air of inevitability to the whole debacle .

I spend lots of time in grouse creek, UT..Claud is around..That area also has several others known to "take care of buisness".."A place like no other" is the town motto, its also a place where you mind your P's and Q's, dont see much law around there.
As far as what happened back in the '80's, all I know is two men lost their lives doing their job. pricks or not I dont think that justifies murdering them..just my .02

That is most likely why he was convicted. HOWEVER, if he'd left them alive but dying...people would be up in arms that "he left them dying, suffering with no regard to comfort". I went thru there several times not long after, had/have friends there and there is a difference of opinion and FACTS. It's no secret that the standoff was sealed it was just the outcome that was uncertain at the time.

I spent 25 years chasing poachers and have looked into the eyes of many men who wanted to murder me. A certain percentage of them probably would have gotten away with it, because there would have been no witnesses. Or at least, none friendly to me.
It still would have been murder.

I was a hard nosed, no nonsense officer. Never had to seriously injure anyone in a 25 year career. For that, and for my life in retirement, I am grateful.

But one of Dallas' lawyers, Bill Mauk, still sees Dallas as a victim: He fired on the officers after his privacy had been violated and after he was threatened by government agents enforcing game laws he didn't believe applied to him. I'd say that sums it up, if you don't agree with the law, shoot those who enforce them.
