FYI Officer Barney Fife Fudd from Grouse Creek, Utah was hot on his trail on more than one occasion but every time he got close, Claud would vanish into the 65% camp or 35% camp and Barney couldn't get much help from the 5% Outsiders - go figger

Let's talk about the rancher's son. Or ranchers, in general.

I don't particularly care for one or two of the Owyhee County gentry, for reasons I won't go into here - but most of 'em are good folks. There ain't a high percentage of private land up there, but much of that has been closed off to hunting as a result of poaching activity. The poachers don't generally respect private property. I don't blame any rancher for turning in a poacher.

So, I take it Claud Wayne Dallas was camping on the rancher's land.

Without double-checking, I can't say that I recall. Doesn't really matter where he was camped, does it? I know it wouldn't matter to me if a poacher was operating on my land or near it - I would drop the dime.

I believe he was, and said rancher was afraid to tell him to leave.

I recall hearing that - but I can't recall confirming it. If true, it blows another little hole in the "subsistence" claim.

As a Canadian you might not have realized this was a hot-button issue. You might also not be aware of a book that was written about the CD murders. It's out of print, but not hard to find. It was written shortly after the trial.
