I shot a 22 A target gun for a couple years until I found my M41 ( 98% gun for $750 )
The 22 A worked well, but the Al frame will take a beating.
It is OK accurate ( not bullseye ) but OK.
But it will not take 10,000 rnds a year.

Less ammo specific than the Buckmark...
I like the Mk1 Rugers... but never got into the 22/45.
I guess they are the gun for those that switch back forth to a 1911.

IMO, Best bang for the buck in the full size .22lr market has always been the Ruger MK's including the 22/45's. You can spend more and get better guns, spend less and get worse guns, but the MK's and 22/45's are a lot closer to the upper end guns than their price would indicate. Would I buy a 22A for a little less money? Hell no.

Being said the MKIII's aren't as good as in function as the older MKII's. Don't get me wrong, my new MKIII 22/45 runs 100% and looks much better than my old MKII 22/45. But it's trigger isn't very good even after some work and that stupid magazine disconnect requires some money and time to fix. For those reasons the Buckmarks may actually take top spot. They cost a little more than the 22/45's but IMO are better outta the box.

Didn't say I had one, just that I wanted something small I could put one on.

That tax stamp pizzes me off. I went the LEO sign off method so I had to fill out a form for the sheriff, get it notorized, another set of finger prints, pay $10, wait 6 weeks for the sheriff to sign it off, then I sent in the NFA paper work and check for $200. That was 4 months ago so I should be able to pick up the can in a couple of months.

The sign off is no problem here for me, just take the form to the Sheriff and he will sign it. It is the $200.00 Fed tax on top of the $200.00 plus sales tax on the "moderator" that stops me.

I may go the home built route and just spend the $200.00 for the fed tax if I can ever figure out all the Ins & Outs of the process with the feds. They ain't that hard to make, making it legal is the killer part of the deal and I won't do it any other way, I am way too old to go to jail and too poor to be paying the fines & lawyer fees.

The Ruger SR 22 should be considered, it's a sweet pistol

I bought this little .22 and was pleasantly surprised at how fun it is to shoot. Great way to introduce a youngster or woman to the 1911 type hand gun, for the day they graduate to the .38 Super and .45ACP. You can click the pic for a review of the gun.

another vote for the 22/45 heavy (round or slab sided) barrel. extremely accurate and easy to keep on target.

I have a M&P which has proven very reliable and a great cross over platform and a Buckmark which is also a great crossover platform as it has 1911 controls. I briefly had a Puma 1911 22lr which was fun and reliable but traded it down the road as I prefer to shoot the real 1911.

I chose the Buckmark over the Ruger MKIII as it felt better in the hand and has proven just as reliable. I shoot it pretty well too.

22A, I got it because it was used and cheap but it grew on me. It cycles well, accurate, fits my hand well.

The bumper needed replacement, cut one out of old toilet flopper, works like a charm:)

I have shot a lot of 22 semi-auto pistols. The Ruger's are hard to beat, the 22/45 lile and heavy are great guns, as well a the Mark II and III. S&W 41 is one of the top guns, but for the price it better be. Also like the GSG 1911.
