The 30-06 is supposedly my "go-to" caliber, but my 243 is on one hell of a roll. I'm only shooting Texas deer and hogs out to 225yds, but it seems to punch through them with no problems

...on earth as it is in Texas.

.25-06Rem and .260Rem. They perform identically. Two favorite rifles...one in each.

I would have to say a 257 Roberts. However I have a 308 that has taken a couple of deer in the last 3 seasons and I like it pretty well. If I was starting over from scratch I might well just buy a 308 and call it good.

Another vote for 25-06, 260rem.
Tomorrow I might reverse that order.

Over the last 30 years I have taken deer with calibers from the 220 swift to the 458 Win Mag. 25-05 is awsome, but the 243 Win is my favorite. In 2011 it accounted for 11 deer and in 2012, 10 so far. All one shot DRT kills from 100 yards to one at 320 yards. Bigger is not always better!

I started to post my favorite whitetail calibers then thought, as long as Im not shooting a 270, nobody on here gives a rats azz. Unless the OP is looking for some kind of general consensus, in which case my fav WT rifle is a 35 Remington. (Not many posters on here will concur with that choice.) Behind the 35 Rem is a 300 Savvy and then a 6mm, followed by a 223.

I'm 35 Rem poor: (Top - Model 7, Middle - Model 600, Bottom - 7600.)

I don't hunt whitetails (but do hunt muleys). My go to deer rifle for over 25 years had been a model 600 Rem in 6.5 Rem Mag. The 600 is semi retired now and lately I've been reaching foe a Tikka T3 light-weight in .308 win. In my opinion, the .308 win is the best deer round in America.

250 Savage might be my favorite.

Have used the 308 Win the most.

I've not yet hunted whitetail deer. If I left tomorrow for an out of state whitetail hunt, I'd take my M7 in .358, and my 7 WSM Montana. The conditione would dictate which got used.

That is a nice group of 35's. My dad's favorite was a 35 rem but in a Marlin levergun. For 90% of the whitetails in New England it would get the job done and many old timers swore by it.

My choice for many years has been a .270 Win.. The caliber has never failed to do the job.
