Sako 75, and others, re: Lead fragments in meat, I understand they go in a bit before blowing, but does all that shrapnel end up throughout the exit cavity if you hit the off shoulder?
Just curious. Your not going to eat the bloodshot crap of a shoulder that is left by a berger exit, so no worries. I have killed quite a few deer an oryx and an elk with various berger bullets, they work for me. Nut, I have never found killing stuff to be that hard.

People seem to love that front shoulder meat. You would think it's tenderloin.

I have taken 4 deer and one bighorn sheep with Berger VLDs and they worked for me as advertised. Penetrated the rib cage and grenaded. Made absolute mush of the vitals. No BS, Hog wash, or guff.

I have one main concern - where does the shrapnel go? I worry about how much meat is 'leaded' - as they seem to blow more than a conventional c/c bullet per accounts of how they work. Don't shoot anything you care about eating through the shoulders and you don't have to worry about it. Classic lung shots work great with these bullets. No need to hit bone to initiate expansion. And people load heavy for caliber bullets by Berger with false confidence that they will perform like heavier bullets. Not really. KenMi-gotta ask, but what are you trying to say with this? And I gotta ask as well but what's been your experience on big game with them? Thx Dober

standard design jacket and core bullet, and claiming high accuracy potential. That's about all that can be said. If you consider performance on how close the caliper goes together when measuring holes in paper targets, they might be worth a try. If you are more concerned about actual performance in hunting, they don't even compare. And once again KenMi-if you don't a bit of clarrification especially on the last sentence? And what have you taken for big game with them? Thx Dober

Guys, I don't have the long range experience that some here have and I have only killed 1 animal (whitetail doe) with a Berger VLD. But that doe was at 658 yards, I used a 140 grain .284 Berger started at about 3050.
Broadside lung shot, small entry and the lungs were just turned to jelly for lack of a better term. Off course no exit and found on tiny fragments.
Going to using that same combo this weekend, I hope to have the same results but I hope to not be shooting that far. LOL

High velocity and close range is NOT the Bergers strong point. I won't use them again. mtmuley

People seem to love that front shoulder meat. You would think it's tenderloin. Funny, all my shoulder meat ends up in the "canning/jerky/stew/burger" bucket when I butcher mine. I'm lining up a gig shooting crop damage for a farmer and I'm seriously considering running some Bergers out of my '06, just can figure which weight. I'm thinking something a little heavier than the 155's but not sure yet.

If 105 VLDs kill deer n elk well, don't know why 50gr more won't suffice Guys, looks like I'll be sure to shoot lungs w/130s in my 6.5s. No doubt the bullet is proven to kill w/other shots, I just do care to avoid any meat loss. Thanks.

Not to be a azzhole BUT...... I would love to see what a 105 vld at 3000 fps does to an elk at 50 yards.
Just for $hits and giggles.
I have seen what a 100 gr partition and 100 TSX can do.\ From a 243.
Lets face it no one knows how close they will show up.

personally at close ranges (0-200) when bullet expansion is a given out of most calibers, i prefer a stout bullet that will expand and punch and penetrate,no matter what..
i would use VLDs in a heartbeat at longer ranges
a VLD at 3000fps shooting at 15 yards on shoulder bone is not needed for me persoanlly
