Haven't tried many, but the Bushnell Trophy Cam is easy on batteries and has been dependable.
Took thousands of photos last year and got some really good shots.
Daytime photos are especially nice.

I have the Moultrie 55IR. It takes pretty decent pictures. Battery life is pretty good also but I use rechargable AA in a C-size adapter. Had it for 2 years and no problems. For 400 acres its hard to say depends on how many food plots and feeders you have set up. I would start with maybe 5 and located where deer are traveling most then increase the number from there. Regarding feeders and food plots I agree with Billy do both. Don't forget about summer food plots either.

RECONYX and COVERT have used the rest and all sucked in one fashion or another

My buddy and I have had great luck with the primos 35. I really like that it will take 3 shot bursts of pictures. Very good battery life, great pictures and low cost.

I've been using mine for 3 years now and agree 100% with this assessment.

For the price, my top two are Covert and Bushnell.

Last year I ran the Bushnell Trophy Cam (446 model) from April to October on one set of 8AA's. It took thousands of pictures and some video. The Covert line is also very good and I had good experiences with them and their customer service it top notch. I ran an MP6 and for the money one of the better cams out there.

This site has a lot of good info:

I like the Cuddeback, but not the IR version. But, because the cost went up on them, the last couple that we have bought were the Bushnell Trophy Cam. Good daytime photos, but I didn't think the night photos were as good as the Cuddeback. Good battery life, however.

I like the Covert and Reconyx. The new Reconyx will do video as well now, looking forward to testing one out.

Anyone have the Leupold trail camera? They seem to produce some good pictures and video.
