What type of speed range does a 6mmAI provide in say a 26" pipe with 90g or 95g pills?
Thanks,
loder This is just me but I've always kind of looked at questions like this in terms of what should it provide for speed. Often times we get the old I can get this with mine routine...Point being, often times people have a tendency to make their round go where they want it go. Dober

Dober I agree for the most part, but there's always a general ballgame figure as well. IE I get 2950 from 150NPTs in my 22" 30-06 pipe, pretty standard for the cart and bbl length. My 6-06 with 26" pipe produces 3500ish with various 90g pills and powders, 3400ish with 95s and 3600ish with 85-87s. What's typical with the 6RemAI in a 26" pipe? Ran loads in a 22" vanilla 6Rem last year that was only a couple hundred fps behind my 6-06. If you consider bbl length and AIing, that certainly closes the gap considerably. Then again, there's always the slow/fast bbl thing and that pesky rule about "no replacement for displacement..."

Always thought the 6AI was the best of the maximum cased 6mms as far as the velocity and barrel life balance goes.
If you want fancy brass there is the 6.5x57 mm and 7x57 brass from RWS, Norma and sometimes Lapua. All good options if your turning case necks anyway.
Build it.

I did an article on the 6Ackley in Varmint Hunter Magazine - October 1993 Issue. It was on a 1-8" twist barrel. The OP might want to look it up. I spent a lot of time shooting and working up the load data (not dry-labbed ). The data is good stuff. God Bless, Steve

Here's your data, linked from another webpage: 6mmAI data I used your 7828 info to get a load for my 6mmAI with 100gr Hornady BT's and had no problems killing little forest creatures.
Now with even more aplomb

Thanks for the link JPro and the reminder Dogzapper. I had forgotten where I got that from originally. I made my 6mm AI off a Rem 700 LA and a rechambered factory Rem 700 take off in .243 Win. Have both the .243AI and the 6mmAI with 24" barrels and get around 100+ fps more with the 6mm with same bullets.

Thanks for the link to Steve's data JP!
That's really close to the ballistics of a 6-06. Very well may be my cart of choice when I toast this 6-06 bbl. Trying to milk it, damn thing is scary accurate.

[quote=Sendero_man had a 243AI and it would shoot the 105 at 3274 with great results. and 115 Dtacs at 3178. ran a M5 in it too. [/quote]
Sendero- What powder and load were you running in the 243AI?
