How many preference points do I need to be drawn for a non-residence deer tag? I leased some land in Iowa (Zone 5) under the assumption the I wouldn't need but 2 preference points prior to appling for a archery tag. Is this correct or do I need 3 points to get drawn?

You are basically guaranteed a tag with 3 pts and you have a decent chance with 2 but no guarantee. Zone 5 is usually the hardest to draw. Mayne some others will have better info for you.

I looked at my lease and it is in zone 4 not zone 5 like I stated. Thanks for any info.

Would be curious about this as well. Any NR draw zone 4 with 2 points last year?

My son and I used to go and 1pt would get you drawn for archery so we could go every other year. Then it got to where it took 2 or 3pts (this is in zone 5) so we started applying for shotgun season in Dec instead. The only time you can hunt the rut (mid Nov) is if you hunt with a bow. And the peak of the rut in Iowa is an awesome time, but I am just too old to wait 2 or 3 years between hunts but YMMV.
