I would like some help with selecting one of the following two rifles for a Newfoundland Moose hunt:
Tikka T3 30-06 with Minox 3-9 scope
CZ 550 Full Stock 9.3x62. 1.5x4.5 scope
Any suggestions as to bullet weight and type would be great. I reload so load suggestions are helpful. I would like to start the work up this year for next years hunt. Most shots 150 yards some out to 300 yards. Thanks, Buckfever1

I would go with the 30-06 and 180 TSX or TTSX and never look back
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I think either one would do the job. It depends on which one you like better.
My 9.3x62 really likes the 250 gr. NAB with JB's load for that bullet, pushing it over 2,600 fps. into half inch groups at 100 yds.
Sounds like a nice hunt.

Not a gunwriter but I had to weigh in on this-
CZ 550 in 9.3x62 every time and twice on Sunday. Sure the 30-06 will get the job done but the 9.3 will do it better in my opinion. I'd go with a standard 286 gr Partition or something similar. Great round for the job at hand... and in a classy rifle to boot!

buckfever1,
I'd use whichever one you really WANT to hunt with.

You can get some long shots there. I have been there and several friends as well. The guides for the most part are clueless re: range estimation. Bring a rangefinder. On my trip the guide wanted me to shoot at a moose he thought was 300 yds and in fact almost 600! I used a .300 win mag and my pard used a Marlin 45/70. We both got bulls.
Either rifle will work.

Yep, what he said. It's so much more effective that it killed that poor bugger TWICE. " Believe it ... or not."

Gents, is a 1.5-4.5 scope adequate for a 9.3x62? I would really like to hunt this gun for Moose but I may have to shoot out to 300 yards in Newfoundland. Thanks, Buckfever 1

buckfever1,
I'd use whichever one you really WANT to hunt with. Yep, what Johnny said. Plus, I would add ... Whenever I had a difficult choice like this, I had a "shootout" between the two rifles. The Shootout was not off the bench, but in field positions on archery targets and at various ranges. The rifle I SHOT BEST got to go on the hunt. Cartridge, bullet and such means very little; that is just [bleep] that gunwriters pontificate upon and armchair wannabe hunters fuss over. Being able so shoot a rifle very well and to place your bullets perfectly ... that means EVERYTHING, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. Blessings, Steve

I've been drooling over the full stock 9.3x62's for some time now, so it would be a no brainer for me! But honestly either will do perfect if you do your job. Neither will do if you don't.

JB's 60.5 gr. load of Varget is, IMHO, hard to beat for the 250 NAB. That load is the most accurate in my AHR/CZ with a .39", three shot group off a bench at a hundred.
Pressure is reportedly in the <60K range and it's a good LR load for that round. I plan to use a CDS to out past 400 yds. Plenty of "juice" remaining at that range for effective kills.
That combo should put the skids on just about any creature you'd want to shoot, in that neck of the woods.
