Overall, I am sure that our squirrel hunting numbers are down from say the 1970s/1980s. The group that I run with tends to get after them pretty hard. One of us has a mountain cur that he runs and does very well as a result. I introduced several kids at church to squirrel hunting and they continue to do so. I take my kids on eight to ten squirrel hunts a year. Deer hunting is great but there is no reason to stop squirrel hunting!

Maybe this question would be more appropriate under the food and cooking section but I'm going to ask anyways.
Anyone care to share a favorite recipe? Always wanted to get back into squirrel hunting again, I had stopped because I never could prepare a meal that the meat was tender enough for the family to enjoy.

My cooking skills have improved considerably over the years so I need to take another try at this.

My past efforts did not include parboiling or pressure-cooking the little Rascals.
Looking forward to trying this Chowder and the Brunswick Stew that saj mentioned.
I will have to wait until mid August for our next season.

I will have to wait until mid August for our next season. Not if you're in KY. They have a spring season that starts May 18th. I was thinking of making a trip to Land Between the Lakes to give it a try, but things have gotten in the way...

Yes we have had the Spring "Mullberry" season but when I checked yesterday I did not see it. I need to double check maybe I only referenced the Fall Seasons. Thanks

pointer, I referenced the General Hunting Guide and overlooked the Spring Hunting Guide. Spring season runs 5-18 thru 6-21 with a daily limit of 6. Thanks for making mention of the Spring hunt. Good luck at LBL if you make it out there.

I used to run into other guys out squirrel hunting pretty regularly when I was younger. I think the last time was probably sometime in the mid-late 80's. Never do anymore. Same for rabbit hunters. Seems about all anybody's interested in around here anymore is turkeys and deer.

Good luck at LBL if you make it out there. Glad you found it! If you're close to TN, the season opens a week earlier and the daily bag limit is 10! I doubt I will make it down to LBL this year, but am filing the info away for the future...
