I figure my Zastava with 24 inch barrel must be fractionally oversize, because even when I load to 61g of H4831SC I am only getting 3030fps with the 130g SST and 130 Hotcor.
That's not to be sniffed at, but I find 4350/2209 gets the 130s up around that standard of 3100fps where 4831/2213 just can't. In fact it can get those 130g bullets right up to 3200 odd no worries.
So for me its 4350 and the like for 130s where I find 4831 excels with the 150 grainers and the 160s too.

Magpro rocks in the .270.
RL22 is also really good but it isn't as consistently good as Magpro. Nor does it meter as well.

Imr4350 worked best in the 130's for me and H4831 for 140 and 150. In any case- you have winners on your reloading bench right now.
Funny trend I thought I was seeing was that a lot of 270 were seeming to prefer heavier bullets.

Have never seen the need for bullets heavier than 130gr in any of the .270's I've owned.
Been going to the 110gr bullets lately.

Couldn't hardly give me a .30-06 but will eagerly snap up a .270.
.30-06, effective, abundant, abysmally boring.
Back to your regularly scheduled program already in progress.

When your fixing to size a case besure to have the die squared very good , now lube good and make sure the case neck after it is sized and takes either 6.5 or 7mm bullets with proper neck tension and that be the best 270 you could ever need

Hey Bob, ain't it surprising the 270 W did not die at least 30-40 yrs. ago. Seems such a poor caliber (277) in this day and age of 'enlightenment'. How in the world does ammo & dies stay in the top 10 or top 5?

Because it is such a mild mannered killer and flat shooting like a magnum. Course you already knew that.
JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

Has anybody chronied a load with mag primers and large rifle primers to compare the velocity? Not exactly what you asked for since it was two different rifles, but 54gr of Hunter with WLR ran 2810 fps (8-shot avg) out of a Rem 760. Same charge, same brass, but Fed 215 ran 2874 fps (5-shot avg) from a Tikka T3. Not apples-to-apples, but both had 22" barrels. Bullet was 140gr NAB. IIRC, velocities were similar with these rifles when using identical loads. I ended up using the Fed 215 for my final loads. They shot great and I had a ton of 215 primers.

RL22 + 130gr Barnes + 1st generation Remington Mountain Rifle = good times! Throw in an alpine mule deer hunt with your kid brother, a sweet 375 yard shot and watching a grizzly sow and two fat cubs while he guts the deer = one of the most memorable hunts ever! The load I used is from Barnes No.1 and was too hot in every other .270 Win I ever loaded for. Chronographed velocity was +3150fps, I can't remember the exact number. I also used RL22 and the Hornady 140gr BTSP, for well over 3000fps, but again I can't remember the exact numbers, although my friend still uses that load in his L61R Sako.

60 grains H4831sc under a 130 Partition..... It can work. Nice buck... I have used that combo a few times myself. Actually there are a lot of 270 users like Aheider and Arac, grinning like Halloween pumpkins over dead animals after proper application of a 270 bullet...everything from pronghorn to grizzly amd moose, and bunches of African stuff, too....These boys tend not to obsess too much, grab a rifle, and simply go out and kill animals....piles and piles of them annually. These guys tend to be hunters first, ballistic gackers second. And of course there is noting wrong with being either one....but some folks like to have stuff to worry about... I always liked 130's best, simply choosing a somewhat tougher one for hunting and a soft one for varmints and target practice.
