Really, really, sorry Scott. We had to put our blue heeler to sleep this past Monday. We had her 15 years. It sure hurts I know. My wife is still crying.

I know the pain you are feeling all too well Scott, it will never really go away but it will subside over time. You gave Mick a great home and treated him like family which is way more than the previous family ever did. He was lucky to have you as his master and vice versa.

R.I.P. Mick.

I think the best thing you can do for Mick is give another poor soul the same loving home you gave to him.

I hope your wife is taking it ok, we just lost our Dog too and I know how much we love our pets and how tough it is to lose them. All my best to you both.

So sorry you lost such a good friend.

I hate them too. I have read bunches of these over the years and hated every one including this one.

Along with acquiring a dog inevitably comes the knowledge that it'll probably die before we do. That certainty of down-the-road grief was why Dad didn't like to see us bring a new dog into our home.

The loss tears into us no less than it would if we didn't already know that it'd come some day. I've seen (as a teen-ager) a car tire mash one of our beloved dogs' head flat, and I've had (as an old man) one look up at me as if it were apologizing for leaving me alone as it died in my arms. I can't imagine how anyone could take such an experience "in stride," and I can't imagine any way that anybody could eliminate the torment.

We may be reaching the age when we will be apologizing to the dog my friend.

With a great deal of effort, I get down on the floor and frolic with my friend Rick's little dog. And with appreciably greater effort hoist myself back up into my recliner, all "wo' out."

With any luck, I won't have to worry about the recliner, and the Charioteer will hoist me even higher.

Dang! Wouldn't that ever puzzle Chico! laugh
