Congrats. I remember my first solo in a civilian a/c, the first in a Navy T-34. It's amazing how many noises you start to hear when you're by yourself (especially at night.."night noises")

Congrats Doc. I soloed in a Piper Tomahawk (Traumahawk!) back in 85 but it came to finish the private or pay for school.
I could easily get sucked into civilian flying as a hobby but I'm afraid it would be an obsession quickly and that might impact the other hobbies. Beside's, flying around DC in a 56,000 lb EA-6B was a pain in the ass. Can't imagine dealing with the restrictions on my own. It's going to have to wait for retirement in NH.
I don't miss the Navy but I miss flying every day.
As far as planes I'm thinking Maule M-5.
If something on the internet makes you angry the odds are you're being manipulated
As small planes go, this one could be quite versatile. All metal riveted construction, Rotax or Lycoming power, floats available, large cargo space in the rear, up to 800 mi range.
Every plan has a downside. Looks a little heavy to me although no one mentions it. Hell of an effort.
He was seriously overloaded and had wife and two kids aboard... Low hours, local MD... No one was injured.
He was trying to force it into the air from the very beginning and refused to drop the nose and let it gain some speed. It barely got on step and as soon as he reached the shore he started getting a little ground effect and lifted the port side until it lost ground effect and stalled...
Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

Can't be a doctor. It's not a V-tail Bonanza. Hard to overload a Beaver but not impossible, obviously. Fuselage held up pretty well to the crash. That's encouraging. I'm glad and a bit surprised that no one was seriously hurt.
