Went with my wife to do the post Thanksgiving shopping thing and came home with a rifle. I was killing some time in Dicks Sporting Goods while my wife was in Kohls and strolled past the gun counter. I found a Remington 700ADL Stainless Steel in 243 with rings and junk 3-9 scope. $449.99 sale price, $50.00 Remington rebate. On top of that I got 10 percent off the purchase price for applying for a MasterCard, which I needed anyway when my Cabelas Visa doesn't work. So when all the smoke clears I got the rifle for around $375.00. They also had the same rifle in 270 and 308. Can't wait to take it out and play!

I went to our local Dick's, and they only had a .308 left. I was looking for a 30-06.

They've had a pretty good track record as of late, one had a crooked chamber and the other wasn't completely reamed.

hope your schit works....

I did the same thing, picked up a 243 SS ADL but was looking for a long action to build off of. Also picked up a 223 Varmint ADL for the same price.

Considering the way this site regards gun writers with poor attitudes toward black rifles, I`m surprised the name Dick`s can even be mentioned inre to firearms since Sandy Hook.

X2. My son just bought a Rem 700 SPS ADL SS 243 on sale at Dicks. It shoots like crap with loaded ammo that shoots less than 5/8" in two other 243 rifles.

By the time you change out the stock, buy bottom metal and buy a decent barrel how much of a bargin is it?

I was in Dick's last night and was thinking about buying a SS ADL in .243. Got to thinking, rifle for $500 (nobody told me about discounts/rebates), then $300 for a B&C stock (yeah yeah should be a McMillan), then $150 for some BDL bottom metal and I was actually looking at a $950 rifle. I can just buy a 700 Mountain SS for less than $900 so where's the deal really?

And yeah, their shenanigans after Sandy Hook should not be so easily forgotten, remembering that ended any further pondering of mine.

Funny you should say that. First I love Remington actions. Nearly all my rifles are Remmy's, but I can relate to the crooked chambers. I just received my 30-06 back from Mickey Coleman who installed a new barrel replace one that had the chamber that wasn't concentric with the bore of the rifle. We couldn't get it to shoot at all. Now with factory 150 grain Winchester powermax bonded ammo, it shot 1 inch groups at 100. I can not wait to try 168 grain VLD or Amax over H4350. I have two pounds of it that needs burning. Acts like it wants to shoot.

Their Sandy Hook crap keeps me out of the stores, no matter the deals. And I haven't shot a black gun since the MC over 30 years ago.

I've owned a half dozen Remington rifles over the years and they all shot just fine. Killed deer with them without replacing stocks, triggers or barrels. I have no doubt this gun will give acceptable hunting accuracy. As far as Dicks Sporting Goods/Sandy Hook, I don't know what everyone is talking about. Whatever, I think I did very well.

I did the same thing a few years ago. I got a rem 700 ss adl, in 30-06 and had redneck turn it into a bad ass .280 Rem, mcmillian stock, pacnor ss tube, and a timney trigger.

Well the deal is that you get a custom rifle for the price of a [bleep] new rem 700. Look I'm a Remington fan, but the ones are crap.

It's your money, spend it how you want. If you are happy with what you paid, that's all that matters. I usually scour the used racks and hope to find a gem, but that's the me being a cheap ba$tard.

I think it's really only a deal if you're looking for a cheap action to build off of. Part out the rifle and sell everything on ebay and you're into the action for a couple hundred bucks. If you're wanting to keep the factory barrel then it's cheaper to buy it already like you want it like you said.

After their decision on AR's, I finally understood the reason for their name, DICKS!

If the rifle is what you want then it would. However, it doesn't sound like he wants an ADL or the cheap plastic stock that comes on it. I know that if it was me purchasing the rifle then how it shot would be irrelevant if it wasn't set up like I wanted it. To me that would mean at a minimum BDL style bottom metal, getting rid of the Tupperware stock, and a decent trigger.
