Unhook the speedo/odo and use an aftermarket GPS for watching your speed.

That's why I left Vermont over thirty years ago. It was turning to chit. I was born and brought in Vermont and my National Guard service was in Vermont. It's to bad Vermont has turned to chit it should have stayed a republic and free of the federal government.

woofer,
If you can't vote with your feet, then its time to stand and push back,,,,hard. Attend your local precinct caucuses and get organized. The bastards will continue unless you can scare them into thinking they may lose their seat. That's the major road to their little socialist brains.

Typing here comparing notes is fine. But get to work locally.

"Apparently we aren't charging enough at the pumps to make the current fuel tax work. "

Correct answer!!! The fuel tax raises only about 1/3 of the total costs of our roads.

What about those who come in with gas cans to fill up lawn mowers etc?? They can't collect 'mileage' taxes on those.. Therefore, you can BET that the sales of fuel-caddies and 5-gallon cans will skyrocket..

There's ALWAYS a way around this crap.. As to any gov't a-hole tryin' to attach some 'reader' to my truck is gonna learn a lesson he ain't likely to have to learn again...

Correct, and most of them live in Chittenden County. Take away that one county and my guess is that the state would lean red at the voting booths. But that's no different than other states where a small geographic area with a high population of morons control the whole state.

The tax will be based on GPS mileage so unhooking the odometer or going to bigger tires won't do you any good. The black boxes going into cars are going to have GPS capability, that's what'll make this tax possible and that's why it's gaining traction now. State governments didn't really have the ability to monitor it until now. Oregon is talking about the same thing.

I wonder what will happen to new vehicle sales at that point?? I have a feeling they'll dive like Greg Louganis...

I would find that antenna (usually about the size of nickel or dime) and put a piece of adhesive aluminum foil on top. Viola! No satellite reception.

People will still buy them. People care more about driving a new reliable car than they do about being tracked everywhere they go. Most people won't keep repairing old cars just to avoid the GPS boxes. Vehicles are a requirement in modern day America, you basically can't live a normal life without one. There might be a few diehards that's keep wrenching on old jalopies to stay away from the black boxes, but in 20 years 98% of the cars on the road will have been built with the GPS boxes installed and will be able to be tracked at will by the govt.

well don't buy a truck with that in it. I don't mean to be simple but there would be a lot more 1979 Ford f-150's in my driveway.

I think that there will be a bunch of Vermonters that have their cars registrated in other states. Connecticut charges property tax on cars every year and the number of cars driving around CT with NY plates is astounding. Most of them are just avoiding the $1000 a year in taxes.

The collection of taxes which are not absolutely required, which do not beyond reasonable doubt contribute to public welfare, is only a species of legalized larceny. Under this Republic the rewards of industry belong to those who earn them. Coolidge
