I'm thinking of sending in my McMillan stock to shave off 1/2" length of pull. It's 13.5" now but I feel like I stretch to get where I want to be. I'm 5' 7 1/2" tall. My inside arm to my knuckle joint is 13" to 13.125" I have a compact with 13" lop in 7mm-08 and it feels great hunting but too short at the range. The 13.5" McMillan feels good on range bench but too long hunting I think.

What are you shorter guys hunting rigs length of pull?

I'm 5'8", sleeve length 32". 13" is ideal for me. 13.5" is slightly long, but I get by with it.

stocks are weird things, sometimes the reach to the trigger from the grip is a bigger issue for me than the LOP.

despite what anyone says, heavy clothing DOES make a difference too. a stock that fits me w/ a tshirt on during the summer, might be too long hunting with my wool coat on during the winter.

I'm 5'9'' and 13 3/8'' feels perfect to me. Factory 13 1/2'' feels just a hair to long and I had one McMillan that was 13 1/4'' that felt a hair short. 1/8'' shouldn't make that much difference, but it can.

Most are 12.5" but my best fitting winter rifle is 12 have always been an odd duck

Now 12" would be way short for me but I think 13" is what I need.

I have no issues with my marlin lever gun but the scope eye relief and rifle fit is less fitting than an open sight gun for me.

I'm 5'10", stocky, James Tucker measured me at SCI this past weekend. LOP was 13 7/8" with a GRIP LENGTH of 3.5". He explained that LOP is a function of the grip length which is driven by how open or closed the grip is (how much it angles down vs back). Please don't take my explanation as his words - he's a master, I'm just attempting to parrot what I learned.

However, that number fit what I had figured out from trying different rifles. Brian from Echols looked at a rifle I was holding a few SCI's ago and figured I was 13.75.

Other guideline is having a couple of inches between your nose and the thumb of your trigger finger.

12.75in for a GP rifle. 13in for one mostly used prone, as you head tilts farther forward in the prone.

I often look at where many posters here have their scopes mounted and I can tell their stocks are WAY too damn long for them.

Most everything is standard 13.5", but I did cut one at 13 1/8" with pad installed and have used it as a youth rifle. I have probably killed more deer/coyotes with it then any other rifle I own. When hunting in weather, it just feels/fits right

Set it for hunting. A little short beats too long when things happen quick.

I'm a hair under 5-10 and the standard 13.5" seems to work, but anything longer feels too long. I have a custom walnut stock for a Win 70 I picked up at a gun show recently that is 13-3/8" and feels perfect, but haven't shot it or had a barreled action in it yet.

6'-0", 230lbs, 13.5" max for me. 13.0" is fine for hunting. Especially with winter clothing... I can manage 12.5" youth stocks with a decent scope with good eye relief... F

I'm 5' 10" and wear a 34-35" dress shirt. Wide shoulders. Factory standard stocks are mostly fine. I do have a custom Mauser that is a little shorter, and another Mauser that was padded an inch short. Both work great as hunters. Plenty of scope adjustment - fore and aft - on both. Really work great wearing cooler weather clothing. I tend to like rifles and shotguns with some cast off.

I just ordered a Mickey edge with 13.0" LOP + 1" decel pad for my M70 classic.

I agonized over this for quite a while and almost changed my order, but no . . .

All my 13.5" LOPs just seem too long for me and I'm not a small dude. As someone else who frequents here said: "It's always easier to add back LOP than to lop it off" cool

And I have to ask: if you were blindfolded and handed rifles in stocks, could you really tell the difference between 1/8" LOP?
