I'm going to pick up another donor rifle (model 700 LA) next weekend at the gun show, or hoping to. Got the barrel on order. The McMillan sentinel stock is next.

I wore it for 20 years and I'd give $200.00 to have it back.

No..........but someone used one on your head............700 most accurate out of the box..........not !!! Now that Remmy is moving to Alabammy guess you have less distance to travel to do your sucking !!!

I really want a new Remington mountain rifle with the B&C stock but I am hesitant to put one on layaway due to the horror stories of the bolt handles breaking off.
Am I being unreasonable or should i not be concerned?
Anyone else hesitant to purchase a Model 700? I didn't use to even consider problems with a M700. I still use them, and think that a M700 should be well used before going into the field with it. Pics below show a recent M700 purchase where the bolt handle fell off before the rifle could even be fired. Stuff happens. Remington fixed it, but not to my liking. Rifle is now gone. WyoM70

Let's see.... what action do the Army and Marines use for the basis of their main sniper rifle? You say the 40-XB.... and what action is the basis of the 40-XB?

How did that safety get like that before you could even fire it?

This hat is fuggin' sweet Swampy. I've never seen tinfoil in that shade before... BTW, grew up on 700s and still have one (till i can get it sold). Of course they were Sixties vintage before that schitty Xmark trigger. Now I shoot Tikkas....'nuff said,

Not sure what you are asking about here.
Safety is in the forward position in that photo. Safety can be moved forward or back even with the bolt removed.
Bolt handle fell off when inserting the bolt into the receiver, fortunately before the bolt was closed. There was no ammunition yet in the rifle.
I have had zero problems with my older Remington M700s.
This is clearly a manufacturing defect, and Remington fixed it for free.
Still, I would recommend thoroughly testing a rifle before taking it into the field.

I have given up on 700's, after firing 100,000+ rounds and the bolt handle breaking off on every shot.
Will be happy to melt down all your defective 700 bolts for scrap, so you won't get in trouble with the authorities. Please ship to POS Bolts, PO Box 579, Townsend, MT 59644 and your worries are over.
