So were they right?
.270 for western hunters and 30-06 for eastern?
I know the .270 is better but would it work in the woods or would a 30-06 with 220gr. be a better brush buster?

223 Ackley works better than the 270 or 30-06 in the woods.

I use the .270 in the eastern woods. Have also used the .30-06 here plenty. They both work well but when I went west for the first time the .270 went along. It's got a lot more western persona to it, I think.

I always aim for brush in front of the deer, as I want the bullet to tumble as it hits. Maximum damage that way.
My alternate answer to the OP is: Whichever cartridge I can get in a semi-auto with see-through scope mounts.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

270 w/180 gr Woodleighs. Gunner You meant 30-06. No such thing in a .270. If there were any to be had Ingwe would've mentioned it.
