As for how it drove and handled,..and took care of what needed being done, my favorite vehicle was a 1998 F150, short bed, 2WD, V6, standard shift 5 speed.

I had to have work done on it along the way and it started rusting sooner than I would have liked (I bought it with 98,000 miles on it) but a Cadillac ain't got nothing on how it rode.

Had a major flash flood one Friday night a few years ago. I was working nights about 25 miles from home. When quitting time came, sheets of water were literally falling from the sky.

I had to go through several low lying areas where water was waist deep to get home. Abandoned cars were sitting in them half submerged.

I just put the plain Jane 2WD F150 in first gear, feathered the clutch, kept the RPM's up and walked it right through them all.

It was Friday night.

I was going *home*.

I wish I could buy a brand new, short bed, V6, 2WD, stick shift 1998 F150.

Biggest POS was a 88 VW Golf.
Poorly built from poor materials. Electrical system was fugged.

I've had great luck with the last three Ford trucks I've owned.

but I had an 81 chevy p/u that I'd bought brand new, sold it to friends and the damn aluminum exhaust manifold cracked

guess I dodged a bullet on that one, but still sucks that friends ended up with it. they were nice folks

A Chevy Tahoe that I bought new in 2002. The ignition turned itself off twice in the first six month causing the vehicle to come to a dead stop in the roadway. Finally got that fixed after several trips to the dealer, but it was hard to trust it after that. After 60,000 miles the tires would not stay in alignment and it got traded in.

'61 VW bus. Gutless pos, wouldn't start if there was one cloud in the sky. Terrible suspension and handling, several guys I knew had rolled theirs. Flatout top speed about 55 those things should never have been allowed on the road.

lol,..In his book, Famous People I have Known, Ed McClanahan talks about driving an old VW bus from California to Kentucky.

The way he describes it makes it sound like an expedition.

1996 Saturn SL2. Burned more oil than gas. Paid $1500 for it, put about $250 in front end parts into it, drove it for 15k miles and sold it for $1500 so I didn't lose anything on it. It's the only standard transmission car I've owned that I shifted smooth as butter without the clutch. The sunroof leaked so bad on the passenger side that in the rain you couldn't ride up front.

2003 Dodge Durango. Tranny blew at 63,000 miles. What a piece of junk.

2007 Toyota Tundra, first and only new truck I ever bought for myself. Don't even know where to begin but it left me stranded on the mountain twice. It had more problems than most guys I know that have had them. Front diff was jacked, tailgate buckled, thin paint, new battery wouldn't maintain a charge, Toyota said it was fine and it left me stranded again, damn near in the same spot as the first time. I never got more than 14-15 MPG on the highway. Bed bounce was atrocious and the payload sucked and I'm sure theres more.
