Indeed. I remember sitting with him last summer on his front porch, the fan going and his dogs laying around. We were talking about life and solving the world's problems. He said to me "I am totally content, happy to have given up gunsmithing and happy to be with my dogs. If I'm called home tomorrow, I'm ready. My only concern would be who would take care of my dogs."
To anger a conservative, lie to him. To annoy a liberal, tell him the truth.
I first met Mickey about 25 years ago, and he gave me my first lessons in benchrest shooting--of course with one of the rifles he built. Didn't get to see him as often as it would have been good to since, but did see him now and then--and traded books and smoked pecans. He hinted he wasn't feeling well within the past year or two, but didn't let on that it was anything serious.
Will miss you, for sure.

I just saw this post. I am truly sad to hear this. I never met Mickey, but he sounded like he had a heart of gold. May God bless you Mickey, you will be missed.
His son was a pastor and he was so proud of him. I think he was a good and Godly man and I'll miss him. There are a bunch of sad animals around his home today. powdr

Very sorry to hear this. From his posts, I was hoping to meet him some day.
