Gotta admit its a brand new internet tactic on me! I also admit not seeing what it accomplished.

Of course not. That poster either hasn't been around here long enough or doesn't understand the term "liberal" well enough. There are some folks who believe (I think Rush Limbaugh perpetuates this) that "liberal" means "not conservative"--that is, if I'm conservative, then anyone who doesn't agree with me is liberal.

It should be clear to all and sundry that I'm not particularly conservative, as is evidenced by my failure to support military adventuring, my opposition to the prohibition of things like gambling and prostitution and drugs, and my thorough dislike of the USA PATRIOT Act. But it should also be clear to all and sundry that I'm not liberal either, as is evidenced by my strong support of gun rights and international free trade and my constant attacks on taxes (any and all taxes) and government programs.

Hence, if you're used to thinking of politics represented as a one-dimensional left-right spectrum, it's kind of hard to place people like me, because while I clearly don't belong at either end, I also clearly am not your average wishy-washy fence-sitting middle-of-the-road can't-we-all-just-get-along centrist. I prefer to think of it as a two-dimensional diamond, with liberals (government on economic issues not social issues) on the left, conservatives (government on social issues not economic issues) on the right, authoritarians (government on as much as possible) on the bottom, and libertarians (government on as little as possible) on the top. If you can see that in your mind's eye, then the proper place for me is crammed as tightly into that top corner as you can get me.

But even that's not really sufficient, because that'd cram us anarcho-capitalists into the same point as the anarcho-socialists, and we're so fundamentally different that that's probably misleading: just about the only thing we share is our distaste for government. You're on your own, though; I haven't come up with a visualization for that.

Well, well. This has been a a very interesting thread. I'm not really new here,,, been lurking here for a while getting to know everyone before I started posting is all. Yes, this thread has been very informative. Tough crowd. Wouldn't have it any other way. If someone spouts BS they get called on it like a "Come to Jesus Meeting". Keeps everyone honest. What was the question again??? GENE! I am a former LEO too. (deputy) in both Crawford Co. Ohio and San Bernidino Co. CA. The only reason I left was because the tech field (read that as $) lured me away. That, and after having to pull some dead high school classmates out of a wrecked car, it lost it's allure for me. Dude, you need to quit being so anal retentive and get a F*ing life!!! You said before that you needed to swear off the internet,,, You were Correct!!!

If we took most of the threads that become long and tedious, and gleaned out the things that repeat themselves over and over again in each new thread, we really wouldn't keep wasting bandwidth fighting the same fights.... but then again, some of these threads would become pretty boring if we didn't keep butting heads in cyberspace.....And I'm as guilty as anyone else when I just have to tell everyone else how right I am....

Anyhoo... I find handles actually MORE descriptive than names. Bikers, mountain men, exotic dancers and transvestites have been using 'em for years, for that very reason....

Gene Langston, served in Vietnam 1968-1969....as did thousands of other Americans. Gene wrote an article for the Athens Banner Hearld in 2003 for memorial day. Good article too. But today this same Gene Langston is taking top billing as moron of the month, he has painted himself in a corner and is having great difficulty finding a way out. So give the old boy a break and let him out of his corner he is old and tired from serving his country and community for so many years. there must have been some tramua in his long and distinguished service to his fellow man to make him into such an a-hole. I think he is really just another troll. The real Gene Langston is an American hero who recogonizes that we the common people need to hide from the evil doers and are not as brave as he is.
On the other hand is he setting us up with the supposed phone number of his boss? Is this person trolling for phone numbers and private info if you call. It a wicked world out there...who to trust? Say good bye Gene L it has been.....ah I give up what has this been?
