WTH just happened?
I traded a rifle or two for a 1971 Jeep CJ5, just wanted to do just enough to make it drivable and use on my lease. Well all good deeds don't go unpunished!
After beating off the mud daubers and rebuilding the carb, changing the engine oil, my father and I got it running, got to love the Buick V6!
Then I ordered parts for the suspension, and lockers for the rear. Got that in and was just going to clean up the body and be done with it.....
As the old girl sat for near on 15 years...
After we got it running...
Starting on the suspension and brakes...
New drums all the way around and new master cylinder.
Rear end, before...
After...
Did the same with the front end....About this time is when the wheels came off!!!
Cool! Keep the pics and story coming.
That looks like a fun project.
Keep em coming, do Dave proud!
Jason take a break. What day for the shooting club?
One day this week?
I need to see your Jeep anyway.

Great looking project you got going.
I've had a couple of Jeep's over the years.
Fun but at my age it's easier to just dig a hole out back and occasionally go out and throw some money down it.

I love these restoration threads.
Have had a few Jeeps, 2 48's, 68 and a 46...
Nothing new here except for taking the body off.
If you run to any snags I know a guy that has a top notch offroad/fab shop in Dennis. He does awesome work.
Thanks for the tip. I normally do, since I weld by the pound I will be taking it to someone to weld the frame and new steering box bracket.

Would you hurry up an finish that thing already.

I'm catching chit from a member that signed up 3 years ago...and his first post?!!!
If you weren't a true friend I would tell you to GFY!
Welcome, Drew!!!
It is about fakking time you posted!
Isn't every Jeep a "project"? LOL!!!!
sactoller, got a new pic of that puppy? I have wondered what it grew to be.
sactoller, got a new pic of that puppy? I have wondered what it grew to be.
Sure do...
and how most commonly found, lying next to my Mom.
Thanks for posting. Good lookin' dog.
wife asks me; why's the yard not mowed?
me; it's that freakin Northern Dave honey, between the road runner and camp Chickenbuck I can't get a damn thing done around here, I swear that boy would be lost without my advice. I have to watch him like a hawk.
when a woman rolls her eyes does that mean she's been placated?
cool project, gonna be a fun ride I betcha
I surely do require watchin after.
lol!
Much appreciated by the way.
That northern_dave's a bastid, fer sure!
I hate reading his posts -- and judging from the "hit counts" on his threads, so do most of the other 49,805 members on this site!
He's even got me thinking of getting a wiener dog...
John
John, have the bark noise maker removed from the weeny dog when you bring it in for spay/neuter.
Then you will have the perfect little doggy. lol.
I'd love to see a progress report on this here jeep....
I got the transmission (Tranny for the PooBah!) and transfer case out yesterday and got to cleaning. Got the top off the transmission, a little surface rust on some gears but nothing that will cause any problems.
Love the Mocha Latte that came out.
Valve covers off, and the valve train looks good.
The covers will get sanded and painted today...if everything goes right.
Ordered a new clutch yesterday, Centerforce II, should be here on Monday or Tuesday, along with the new body spacers.
My buddies dog Katie, the day we loaded the old girl up.
Are you thinking about maybe a quick redneck rinse of the engine oiling system?
Drain the oil, add a 40-60 mix of deezil/15W40, let her run unloaded for a bit?
The old timers used to do stuff like that when I was a young'un.
Problem is, everything has changed since I was younger. The oil is different, the diesel fuel is different too.
If I was going to do it, for the fuel portion of the recipe I'd use the off hwy fuel or look for "Bio diesel, or I'd use the regular crappy ass ULS pump diesel and add a bit of 2 stroke oil to make up for the low lubricity of the ULS fuel.
I plan on doing this with an old 223 ford 6 banger this summer.
I love these restoration threads.
Actually the "restoration" is the part that comes after the Jeep is done, if they ever are. Jeep/done-oxymoron
Got a little done yesterday. The transmission/transfer case is cleaned and painted (Rustoleum). The engine and frame cleaned and degreased waiting to be painted.
I did get the valve covers painted...think they came out well...It is a Jeep!
Well, after spending the previous two days cleaning the engine and frame I got it painted.
Pieces and parts painted and drying in the sun...
Looking good Sir, I LOVE these threads.
Got a little more done...just waiting on some parts so I can get some serious stuff done.
Looks to me that your playing while waiting on parts.
That fan is classy, I like it.
What kind of locker did you get?
Travis
Travis,
I used
Lokka , it is simple rugged and easy to install.
TLee,
Thanks, painted the fan up for Dad. Being that he is an old P5M pilot, I thought it would add a little 'cool'!
Jason, looks like a fun project! Glad you have more energy than meit has taken me longer to clean out my office than you have spent on this restoration!
Make ND proud!!!
Thanks, but I am not nearly as talented as ND.
I'm flattered, but I doubt that's true.
You would have gotten a chuckle over my weak effort at a car trailer refurb yesterday
But it's a trailer, good enough.
Well, as I say, ISJAFJ....(It is just a Fakking Jeep)
and will be used as such.
Obviously, you have never seen my ninja welding skillzzzzz!
Loving the Tootsie roll fan blade paint scheme.
Keep the pics and details coming, please.
pfffft.
don't you know you need at least a $30 oil filter?
Cool man! I dig the fan. Keep us posted on this rig!
Not too much progress, still waiting on some parts. I did get the new clutch in, and the transmission/transfer case in.
I then noticed that my clutch arm was cracked, ordered a new one.
I did receive my body mount spacers...long way before I need them. I also, got the Mico Lock in.
Steady by jerks....
looking good!
That fan is classy, I like it.
yeah, I like that aircraft prop look to it.. nice touch..
what a cool thread this is... and five pages and no one has been slandered or degraded yet...or called out....makes it all the better...
can't wait to see the finished project...
Thanks....got some new work coming.
A model 30 front axel with disc brakes...bonus! Power steering box and steering column and a full mandrel bent roll cage!
Ahhh, Dad did you mark the wires?
Still waiting on some pieces and parts. Got to drag it down to the welder and have some new cross members welded in, along with the P/S bracket.
The tub up on my uber cool rack!
She's lookin good Vern.
Looking good. I just picked up my new "project" on Saturday. It's a '64 Willys CJ5 that a local farmer bought new and kept it in his barn the majority of it's life. Only a little surface rust in places, but all original except he put new tires and clutch on it.
It's an improvement over the last Jeep "project" I had, a 78 CJ5 that Fred Flintstone would've felt at home in.
What color are you gonna paint it?
Color is going to be the original green...
Today, I am going to try out my ninja welding skillz...
Tack, tack, tack.
(prevent warping)
Very nice thread. I love following the pictures and evolution of the repair.
Wish I had the skills, time and place to take such and endeavor, but I can change light bulbs and pump my own gas, hahaha.
Well, the patch ain't pretty, but it will work.
Will take pictures later.....from very far back!
Well got a lot of sanding and bondo and sanding and bondo and sanding and bon....well you get the picture.
Hood is done...didn't take a picture of it yet.
The passenger side of the tube was really beat....it ain't gonna be a show heep...(Rear corners are getting diamond plate, so not worried how they look)
The headers arrived today. .
Also went and picked up a cage. Going to change a couple of things, but it is a good start.
Keep em coming Sir, love these threads.
Here is a throw back to the first Jeep, dad and I built...All I seem to do is sand on these damn things!!!

This thread is SOOOOOO COOOOOOLLLLLL!
That a V 6 or V 8 you're putting in there? Old AMC 304?
Six. Those are great little engines.
It is the stock motor, Buick 225 Dauntless, oddfire.
Attempted this on a l961 Ford Workmaster tractor. Got it 90% finished and ran out of steam. Still unfinished after sitting untouched for two years. Start these projects early in life or they may outlive you. GW
Throw back Thursday!

I love flatties, but they don't work s well for 6'6" fat guys...

Holy crap! Progress... I almost fell over...
That .223 just went up!
I love flatties, but they don't work s well for 6'6" fat guys...
I notched the fenderwells, and moved the seat back about 4"...made a big difference.
CJ6 is what I am on the lookout for now. I will finish the 5, then when a 6 comes up, I can transfer everything over to it except the rear drive shaft.
That old flatty, got transformed to this...
Got the underside and inside of the tub herculined.
Looking like a great project!

I have kinda bounced the fender notching idea around my noggin a bit, but never really went anywhere with it.
CJ6s are cool. If I stumbled on one for a decent price, I might think about picking it up. Or a CJ8, but they're even more expensive than first gen Broncos.
Up Nort' Dave oughtta give this a go in his new shop. It needs mucho help.

Jason that's not you it's the devil...
Got the new radiator today. Got it mocked up...gonna work good.
Well, it has been a while.
It has been slow going, waiting on parts, but I have gotten some stuff done.
I got the rear corners mounted.
Also, got the rocker metal cut and mounted. Will be picking them up from the powder coating today.
Also, got the a bunch of stuff primed yesterday, will do the tub this weekend, more than likely.
Also, received the power steering pump and brackets yesterday...
Very cool. I could really like having a Jeep like that for running around the country roads and 2 tracks.
Keep up the good work.
Power steering is so Uber.
Nice work!
Thanks guys....
Bruinruin....it just maybe for sale when done...since I really want a CJ6!
ND...when I am ready for color, I am going to have to pick your brain some.
You still working on that thing...
You still working on that thing...
No guns for you!
That's not you it's the devil...
That's not you it's the devil...
You better hope so!
Off to get the color today...
Outstanding! Visit two auto paint supply stores and neither one had the mix code for my color! WTF?
Come East youngman, come East. Get out of your local area.
And we need to go shooting. I need someone to crank the handle on manual thrower.
Or get your Dad to teach this lefthanded person to shoot better.
Tub is primed and ready for color, now whether I am ready to apply it...is a whole nother story.
Great thread. That pick of your black flattie looks a little like the Rubicon trail. Where were you when it was taken?
Great thread. That pick of your black flattie looks a little like the Rubicon trail. Where were you when it was taken?
That was the Rubicon. We did it every year, at least once from 1983-2004.

Love that trail. Fun, a little hard in spots, and beautiful.
Well, between work and getting ready for hunting season, haven't had much time to work on the Jeep. Well, today afforded me some time to try my hand at applying some color to it.
Going to have to do some color sanding and work on my technique a little bit, but I think it is going to look pretty good.
Nice color.
You start in the unseen place to get the technique down then move outside.
Hunting is almost here.
Hence the reason I started with the fenders and dash...easy to sand and start over.
how did I miss this??????????????
You go buddy!!
Going to get a faster catalyst for when I do the body. The temp has cooled down since I purchased the paint late this summer.
Did get the frame back from the welding shop...The gal can really weld!
Now, I am just waiting on the model 30 front axle to really get it going!
Picked up some new parts for the old heep!
model 30 front axle...had to take the Dana 20 as part of the deal.
When I tore it down...had a nice surprise!
The bad is it is the wrong ratio...easy fix, I'll go with a G2 Ring and Pinion.
Also got a set of 5 wheels and tires...Tires I will sell, I only wanted the wheels. I'm putting 33" on and these have 35's.
Good news is I have the model 20 axle sold, the springs sold which covers what I have in all of it!
Lookin' good.
Love the color.
Thanks!
1972 Pontiac color.
"GFY" is just a figure of speech!
Nice rig, though.
Nice project, I think your doing a great job.. enjoying reading up on the progress.
Thanks, but the real test is when I lay the clear coat on!
It looks ok for a Jeep.
It ain't Northern Dave good though!
What clear are you using? What gun?
I really like that green!
Love the color. I recall a 60's tempest in my neighborhood that looked like it was that color.
Makes me wish I had a Jeep. Cool thread.
What clear are you using? What gun?
Chit I have no idea, will have to look and see....dis is all new to me, first time I have painted...Kind of spray and pray!
It is a HVLP gun off brand with a 14 tip, that much I do know.
Is a local body shop or jobber mixing for you?
Napa...they have been very helpful. The paperwork has all the mix ratios and pressure settings, so I'm sure I will be ok.
I just need to get it sprayed so I can get the body mounted...so I can figure out the geometry for the new steering colum and box. Can't do that without the body being on.
Cool, I'm glad you are reading the tech data sheets. Some bases have a short recoat window. Meaning you have to shoot the clear immediately to get inter coat adhesion. The bases I use have a larger more forgiving window too, takes some of the pressure off.
She's looking real good! 1.4 or 1.3 is what I use for clear as well. (Base too)
Like I said all new to me....if I mess up I figured I can just do it again...heck it is only money.....laffin
You'll be fine, looks awesome so far.
I sure envy the people with the know-how to do this stuff.
Enjoying the thread, thank you.
Got the clear coat on today and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I may have to redo a fender.
Polishing is out...breaking out the wet n dry!
Summer sanding, does it get any better.
You want to tackle my 84 CJ7?
I'm wanting to do a similar restoration to mine. I took the 33" tires off and put 31" back on. I bought it lifted and they just used shackles to do it and the bump steer was horrible. Plus the gear ratio wasn't even close to being able to pull those big tires with 2:18 gears, so the cheaper of the two evils was to go down. New shackles, rims, and tires made it much more drive-able.
Now the next problem I need to figure out is why it keeps eating radiators? I'm getting flex somewhere when I off road it and the fan hits the radiator. I've replaced motor and transmission mounts as well as all the body mounts and I'm still eating a radiator about every 12-18 months.
Anyway great job and keep the pictures up!
You have a straight body compared to mine.
I have a model 20 rear end that I will sell you cheap...it is 4:55 so you can pull the larger tires and rock crawl a whole bunch better. Just have to have your front end geared same.
As far as the radiator is the fan eating it? Are you running a flex fan?
We have had a few jeeps with very little space between fan and radiator and never had a problem.
The tub is pretty straight, has the rust starting in the corners like all Jeeps get. Hood needs to be replaced previous owner has the windshield frame crease in it. Someone did a hatchet job on the dash installing an stereo, and the windshield frame is rusted out and.
The 258 needs a rebuild if only for new gaskets as it leaks a lot of oil between changes. Clutch and 5 speed have been rebuilt in the last couple of years. My transfer case is in good order no mocha latte there.
On to the radiator, no flex fan is being used. However it's a n aftermarket fan and was when I bought it. I run a revers direction fan with serpentine belt which is pretty rare it seems. I did pick up a fan off of a YJ which I've been told is the same. Now I just need to get a new radiator and I'll be back on the road.
This will be my 3rd radiator in the jeep in about 5 years if you don't count the one that got a hole punched through the core when my nephew damaged it before I got it installed. Wound up being cheaper just to buy a new radiator than getting it fixed as there are very few radiator shops locally and they know it.
I was going to go to a electric fan, but I lack the room between the pulleys with the fan removed and the fan housings on the generic models. The new ones specifically for the jeep have been more than I've wanted to invest at this time until I fix some other problems. Then there isn't enough room to put the fan in front of the radiator either to make it a pusher. I read that the Ford Taurus electric fan fits of certain years but I haven't found one in the local junk yards yet.
My papaw's Jeep went on a radiator eating spree and one of his cross members was broken allowing everything to twist enough at times for the fan to chew on the radiator.
My papaw's Jeep went on a radiator eating spree and one of his cross members was broken allowing everything to twist enough at times for the fan to chew on the radiator.
I'll look for that one, thanks!
Forgot to mention that I have a hole in the transmission tunnel. The yoke gave way behind the transfer case one day driving down the interstate at 65 mph. Talk about some racket in the cab until the rest of the drive shaft shot out from under the Jeep and crossed the lanes of the oncoming traffic. I'm sure the one guy who swerved to miss it about shat his pants!
I bet he did!
I have only spun a few axles while rock crawling, that is bad enough.
Great thread here! You fellas have a lot of talent.
Lots of color sanding the past two days. Not going to be perfect but respectable. I'll call it a 30/30 Jeep. Looks good at 30 feet or 30 mph.
I might get away with a 20/20.
Nice!
Liking the color too!
I wish I had the time, patience, talent, desire, money, space....
Thanks....it's coming along.
I picked up the wheels and tires yesterday.
Got the wheels and tires on....
Will get the fuel tank and body mounted Wednesday and Thursday.
+1
I also envy those who can do that type thing. I have zero mechanical ability.
Ran into a problem with mounting the body. On my new rear cross member, I measured the holes wrong.
So had to lift the body again and drill the holes in the correct place and got the body all squared up on the frame.
Got the tub secured and installed my tail lights and back up lights. Also, had my headers machined to square the face.
Waiting on a guy to get back from vacation so we can mount the power steering box, new front shock mounts and re-gear the rear end.
Did notice today that the left front fender has a chip in the paint. Oh well, chit happens.
Damn that's looking good, nice work!
Cool beans! Keep the pics and the progress coming!
Looking great. Can't wait to see the next series of pictures.
Nice! Are you running a traction diff of some sort?
4.56 should get you to climb anything. Awesome so far!
It is a Locca locker in the rear and a power locker in the front.
Gonna have to do some cutting on the grill to fit the p/s box but shouldn't be too bad.
Damn that looks good Jason
One should have been paid to take that off their hands. I'd be inclined to lift the radiator cap and just put a new rig under it.
I like working/tinkering with stuff. Just not my stuff.
Little mock up....gonna work!
Now if I could just find the bolts to the hood hinges!
Thanks, Dave.
Got a little bit more mocked up. Radiator, passenger side headers....
My big issue is going to be getting the right hose combination, since I have an aftermarket radiator.
Jason, this is cool, watching this take shape...
Its like "Overhaulin" without AJ
But keep posting progress pics anyway!

sactoller, way cool ride you've got going there for something you just wanted to use on the lease!
Based on your first post you must have really needed some "punishing"
If I was you I think I might have stopped after you and dad got it running. However, I'm glad you continued and decided to share the events with us.
Thanks
Geno
PS way cool dog too!
Got the universal yesterday, just before I headed out to work. Going to mock up this morning....getting closer!
That's going to be way too pretty to use! Great job.
getting closer...
Well been a while...
Finally, got it started and timed...what a pain that was, but once I figured out the issue was a breeze.
Brakes are done and the Mico Lock works great with no bleed off!
I did have to take off the fan and go with a pusher electric and had to redo my power steering and how I routed it.
Went to fix a gear oil leak on the transfer case....well crap looks like that is a rebuild! Since I have it out, I will convert to a 2 stick transfer case and if I can find a SM420 or SM465 that would be nice.
Going to order the gauges and electrical in the next couple of days...hope to have it on the road by the end of April! I may still make a July Rubicon run!

It sucks when things don't route they way we want them to don't it?
Out back i have a front axle out of a toy pickup for the landcrusier but before i even think about it i need to get the new engine ordered.
Know where one is but turning loose of the 4,000.00 for it is the hard part.
Keep knocking the checklist down one at a time and it will get done.
Looks good
Just for my information - why a 2-stick transfer ?
Just for my information - why a 2-stick transfer ?
The current single stick transfer case is 2h-4h-N-4L with a 2 stick, one stick is for Hi/Lo range and the other is for 2/4.
So the 2 stick gives me an option when crawling to be in 2 Lo, when my front wheels are not needed for the rocks.
Cool project. It does my heart good to know I'm just one of many who buy a beautiful hunk and then spends tons of money to improve it.
Just found this thread today. Since I have absolutely no mechanical expertise or aptitude this is pretty impressive stuff to me. Looking forward to the finished product.

So am I!
I started out with a 44ford. to follow, a 42ford script, a 45willys, all military, then a 49cj2a, the a 53M38a1, a 10/72toyota fj40. It was cheaper to buy the things than just trying to get the parts.
I keep wishing i had a garage like you do to do it properly.
What broke the camels back was trying to get a t84 transmission to work in the 44. I had it going on the bench, but every time i stuck it in the jeep in 115degree heat, wouldn't work. I ended up buying a t90, and there it sits today.
That is a LOT of money, and a LOT of work to say the least.
Between my father and I we have done, 68 CJ5, 84 CJ7, 86 CJ7, 2-48 CJ2a, 46 CJ2a.
All of them were rock crawlers. I have no doubt this one will crawl well.
Lots of money yes, but still less than a new 4x4 side by side!
Great thread!
Grew up bouncing around in my Uncle's flat fender, then built a few Jeeps myself years back including a CJ5 V8 I was very successful racing on the east coast back in the late 70's.
Hoping to see your end result soon!
Why go to all the work? We all know CJ5's rollover every time you go around a corner!
Nice job, I miss the one I grew up with.

Only when retards drive them. One has to know the limitations of the vehicles they are driving.
Dang, that was a GREAT read to go with my morning coffee! I've previously overlooked this thread somehow.
I have never done anything mechanical in my life so I always find these "rebuild threads" fascinating--I'm amazed at how much one person can know/do with a vehicle!
Congratulations on your project!
Nice job sactoller, both on the ride and the thread.
I have a '73 cj-5 in storage that I plan to go through one of these days. It's the last year of the straight windshield and tailgate I believe. The first year for the amc 304 v-8 motor.
Thanks Mike, ready to sell me that 6 yet?
Well, been slow going, but now that I have the ignition and carb figured out, will be able to piece it back together a little quicker. Still have to pull the transfercase and transmission. Waiting on the gauges to come in hopefully, they will arrive this week. Did some clean up on the headlights and will have to do a little cutting on the housing for the head lights.
Add me to the list of;
How did I miss this thread, Super Cool, Awesome skills, Keep it coming, and I can't wait to see the finished product!
Outstanding, sir!
Ed
Thanks! Going to need to hurry up with this, got a couple trips planned for this summer...running out of time!
Looking good. That is one nice rig. Can't wait till you finish it.
You'll need to update us with a video.
Just got word that my custom gauges have shipped, should be here Tuesday! Damn, I may actually, finish this thing!
A little new world bling on old school CJ!
I cleaned up the headlight housings, think it just looks better than the rusty brown.
Looks like it's going to be awesome.
Greg
a really great read...you have the patience of a saint !! Congrats
Thanks, been frustrated more than a few times! So much so I'm trying to make a deal on a 1975 CJ6!
Nice stuff.
One of my truly favorite ongoing threads on the site.
Thanks for the updates.
Challenging?
It says E-Z Wiring right on the box!
That is a great looking Jeep!
Thanks, I'm hoping to have it on the road by the 4th....but that maybe pushing it.
Looks good my friend. You can do it...
Thanks, I'm hoping to have it on the road by the 4th....but that maybe pushing it.
I'll be done on the 5th for the transaction.
Someone asked for a better picture of the LED halo on the headlight, this picture is a little better then the previous picture. Also, a picture of my main gauge.
When you first posted the paint color pics I didn't think I would like it. Now that I see put together, it looks great! Going to be a sweet ride.
Greg

You are not alone with those thoughts. I owned a 72 LeMans Enduro the same color, so I had a sneaky idea it would look good, but the color is not for everyone. It really, does stand out in the daylight!
Where'd the gauge come from? Is it a direct replacement?
Speed hut.
All electronic.
Wow, super talented!! I have to ask, what was the Bonide Spray Oil used for?
Wow, super talented!! I have to ask, what was the Bonide Spray Oil used for?
Laffin, that was used on a couple of my trees and shrubs outside of my shop.
I'm getting impatient. Let me know when I can fly in and pick 'er up!
Wow! And I mean wow!
Well, been a while. Got the lights done, now have the gauges to go. Have the transmission and transfer case out, worse than I thought. Not only had a bad gear, the shifting tower on my transmission has a big ol crack! So off to my local transmission shop, cause he has an old Willys wagon that he pulled out his transmission and transfer case out. He was nice enough to give them to me, so I will be swapping cases and the twin stick. I have parts on the way from Herm so I can complete the rebuild.
I also, had to drop the fuel tank, because my rear cross member need to be replaced with a more stout piece. So I am waiting on those parts and then will get it down to the welder to get it in. I love going backwards!
But, with the transmission out I can work on the gauges a lot easier!
Did get some of the final painting done. Decided to paint the roll bar the same as the jeep....man what a pain!
Looking good my friend. Finish her up so we can go for a ride.
Well, been a while. Got the lights done, now have the gauges to go. Have the transmission and transfer case out, worse than I thought. Not only had a bad gear, the shifting tower on my transmission has a big ol crack! Unexpected delays and setbacks are the very definition of a true project. Look forward to seeing the finished product but it looks outstanding so far. That color really works.
Thanks, I'm ready for it to be done.
I like the "handyman jack" matching color!
That will be for show only. Laughing
It lives...
finally!
Congratulations. You are truly very talented. Beautiful job
Nice!
Friend of mine has a CJ5 in decent running shape if you care to start over again...
$3k
Bring it on over, Jason, and we'll take a ride thru the mesquites in search of hogs.😀
Well, maybe we'll just ride down Main Street in it.
Jason, who owns the Hardrock in your driveway. Looks just like mine.
Awesome! Turned out great!
Now let's see some videos of it crawling rocks

If it was a CJ6, I would probably take you up on that.

That's the plan!
Still have some tweaking to do...
Ordered the new seats today and will be getting the winch plate started tomorrow.
Only have some light switch wiring and cleaning up the wire harness left....oh yeah, and replace a leaky seal in my transfer case.
Awesome Jeep man! I love it!!
Very Sweet thread! Thanks for taking the time to share all the pics.
My 23 year old daughter bought a 2016 jeep yesterday...$35K.
I think she's crazy, but she's a good kid, hard worker at the hospital and paying her own way thru nursing school, so I helped her a little bit.

I have a 2012 that I'm upgrading as I type. It is much easier as it is mostly bolt on.
Well please share some pics/stories on that one if you have time.
My daughter's purchase was pretty tricked out, I'll try to get some pics to post. She's beside herself.
Just saw this thread for the first time yesterday. Finally read through the whole thing. Impressive is the word. Beautiful job. Now, you and Northern Dave can go into business together and really crank 'em out. Have fun with that Jeep!

Thank you for the compliments, but I am pretty sure Dave would not want me any where around!
NICE! All the hard work paid off!
Excellent project for a Jeep. Saw one of those for sale the other day but it was in rough shape. I'd like to get a small trailer similar for our Jeep that would tote the ATV or some camping gear. Even thought about building a fold out tent camper/atv trailer combo. How cool would that be? What's your plan?
Little bit more done...
I am going to build a rack for a tent...at least that is my plans are for now.
Pretty cool Sac, That Dave sure is a bad influence.

Yeah, that Dave sure is a dick!
Cool project Sac!
Holy crap you found one. You should finish the green one and make sure the Dodge is running good...

May have to shorten my hunt and drive over and pick it up in Oregon....
Nice Jeep "after all your work". We have a pretty nice one on our hunting ranch. It had only 3000 miles on it when I got it. Biggest negative is the 3 speed trans. Geared way to high. Yes, it has the old Buick V6.
Dave is one nasty SOB, doing things like this to you.
That’s understandable. Elevation is hell on you flat landers...
Great looking jeep Sac!

The transmission is fine, ratio in the axles is probably, 3:73, change it to 4:56 or 4:88 and it will go everywhere!
:
Thanks Sycamore,
I have always had either CJ5 or CJ2a, always wanted a 6. So, here I go!

I'm pretty sure jeepers are the same wherever they are found.

It has been a long haul. Only have a couple of items left on it....Then the 6 will be here and I will be swapping a few items, oh the fun!

Easy Paco or I'll have to bring you a .270!
You do and your on your own. There gay...
Should be purrrrfect fer you!
The gay runs deep with that caliber. What color are you thinking for the 6?

I stopped in Moab, UT on the way home.
Got all four corners done, I like the stance...
It’s fun to work on an old jeep, just bought back a 89 I had sold to son in law.
Looks great man. Keep it up! Love these threads.
What color are you going to paint this one? The green on the last one was a unique color. Have you sold the green one yet?
Being a former owner of a Jeep, I think everyone should own at least one.
Really nice project, thanks for taking the time to photo and update us on your progress. And the updated puppy chow photo, does he hunt with you? Couldn't tell if that was birds laying at his feet or something else. My screen was a bit foggy.
That jeep is not gonna help you get up those mountains in three weeks. You better be getting in shape…

Sir, round is a shape!
Tell your dad W . Bill said "Good on ya dad."
Ya might give him a hug for the heck of it too.
You'll both remember that forever.
W. Bill
If the weather cools down he can do more. The heat kills him, and he can't keep up with the hydration.
Got to love a tractor!
