It is no secret that Californians are leaving in droves and spreading all over the western states. Each year seems to set a new record number of people leaving the state. I can't say I blame them. I just wish they would leave California in California and not try to change where they move into California 2.0. My biggest question though, is why in the world would any sane person want to live in California? I've been there a number of times and I just can't think of any major reason to want to move there. It's crowded, over taxed, high crime rate, pollution in the air and on the ground. Not to mention its just all around expensive to live there. It seems the state is on a rapid course for full self destruction. Honestly what redeeming quality is there for a person to want to live there or move there, that couldn't be better somewhere else?

California is going to be heaven when all the Californians leave.

Then we will make sure and build a big assed fence and keep em out.

Some beautiful beaches there and from the short time I visited there, northern California is beautiful country and supposedly has some pretty good hunting.

Most beautiful state in the union, fantastic weather, beautiful beaches, deserts, mountains, etc.

The problem with California is Californians, the actual place itself is fantastic.
Posted By: 1minute Re: California? - 01/08/20
Some beautiful and productive country in that state. But crowd the majority into 3 or 4 cities that are essentially cans of worms, and they develop the mindset that everyone else's problems are the same as theirs.

The only reason Cookie and I ever do cities, is to get to an airport regardless of the state.

YES

Being born and raised in Reno and close to Ca I spent many days hunting, fishing, and generally enjoying the State's natural wonders. We hunted and fished the eastern slopes of the Sierras and the northeastern high desert. I have many great memories of what CA was.

In the last fifteen years the State has broken off the mountain and rolled into a political sewer. It's unfortunately spilled over into here.

It still has good hunting and fishing, but keeping up with every one of the crazy rules and regulations makes it a place I now avoid. I'd no doubt get arrested for pizzing up wind or breathing more air than the State allots.

Still, they have wonderful places...just too many communists, however.

"Most beautiful state in the union"
I travel a lot and I simply do not agree with this statement. Perhaps to some people it is, but certainly not to me.
Posted By: northcountry Re: California? - 01/08/20
Lets go back to the way it was B4 SCOTUS changed the country I.E. ever county elects one senator to the state legislature instead of based on population just like the "FEDS." that way we have our checks and balance. The whole country would be better balanced. Just my solution to the mess we have now. Cheers NC
Posted By: Hotrod_Lincoln Re: California? - 01/08/20
Yep, and the next thing to do would be to go back to the original US Senate model, where the Senators were appointed by the state legislature, not by popular vote. That's what the House of Representatives was for!

Might be awhile. Some of the families have been here for 100-125 years or so.

PS perhaps all you other states need to have some sort of litmus test for resettling. Voting records maybe, show us the guns, "do you folks watch Last Man Standing?" Maybe you can get 'em sorted out before they grow roots.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: California? - 01/08/20
Whats Last man Standing?

Anyway....trouble with Californians......is that they kinda look like us.

Well, not us in the East side of the State.....but they kinda look like Western Montanans.

Now that the Western guys stopped making their coffee at home and buy the fancy schit in town.......you cant visually tell them apart from the average fleeing Californian.

Its a pickle.

Well Big Sky, Let me tell you why I'm not leaving. I'm 83 and have lived here most of my life. When I retired I got out of the bay area and moved to Northern California namely Lake County. Here a nice piece of property is about a third what it would go for in the Bay area. To me its an affordable nice place to live. Nice day I jump in my Bass boat and hit Clear Lake which is probably the best bass lake in the nation although some Texans would argue about that. I look out my window and see 7 Deer in my front yard and one is a pretty nice three pointer. My neighbors come over and we discus how we are going to fix up the road. During the Turkey season my Daughter and two Granddaughters with their husbands from my youngest Daughter come up to hunt them and hopefully get a shot at a pig. During the Deer season my Daughter Sandi comes up and we hunt the early season here and go north to friends in the Yreka area to hunt. \Great folks there also and they try to make sure Sandi at least gets a shot at a buck. Did I mention that the folks up here are a different type of person that is forced to work and exist in the lower part of the state. Life is much more relaxed and people actually like their neighbors. We also have a great gun range and the club makes a special effort to have youth hunts and are very instrumental in holding shooting classes for women and youngsters. If I felt I needed a concealed weapons permit no problem with our sheriff. Also try and have a Grandmother move away to another state and leave her Grandchildren behind. I'm sure I have left out a lot of other reasons but you get my drift.

I've heard comments about your side of that force field. As in that area is a lot like Western ND.......................only maybe worse. Even fleeing Californios won't put down roots there.

And the TV show is about the only one that shows conservatism in a relatively good light. Makes fun of the liberal Canuk member of the family. When you folks in the hinterlands get time away from the cows and the wheat you should check out an episode or two on the tube, assuming you get more than Hockey Night in Canada and the weather for the Great Plains.

I was born and raised in Northern California and am halfway out now that I'm in my 50s. Only thing keeping me there part time is my elderly parents, who won't move and need a lot of help. Back when I was a kid, California was like a lot of the places that Californians are now moving to (Idaho, Washington, Oregon). The state is definitely beautiful, but I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful state (I am at my place in Montana right now, looking out the window at the Bridgers and there ain't NO view in CA as good, either 50 years ago or today). The weather can be really good, but it's not that great...it gets way too hot in many places in the summer and I prefer real seasons. When I leave California, I won't miss it one bit and I sure as hell won't be voting for ANYONE or ANYTHING that seeks to do to my new home what was done to California.

Them on a rapid course to self destruct is the state's one saving grace...

They can't keep up this crap...and they are on a rapid rush to self implode...

Then the state will have to start all over again, or be broken up into smaller states, to start over...

Ca has many counties that are normal people just like you... its problems come from the likes of the folks who inhabit
San Francisco, L.A. County and Sac of Potatoes...like almost any state now in the country... its the urbanite lefties that are screwing up every where they get to dominate....

No different than Oregon.. there is Potlandia, Salem and Eugene, and then the rest of us...

ya wanna clean up the West Coast... make San Fran, Potlandia, Skeedattle, and L.A ( Lots of [bleep]) all islands state like Hawaii.... or make each an independent city.. good chance their politics polluting the entire west, will drown with them in their liberal insanities.... just drag them down, instead of the entire state they are located in...

What Seafire said ^^^^. Our best hope in the north counties? We are hoping the wheels fall clear off the wagon...and maybe during reconstruction, Jefferson State can bail out. No other way to do it. My county is the same size as Hawaii...but with 7 people per sq mile...not a lot of power at the ballot box.

Fantastic state? Having spent the first 18 years of my life there (left there over 50 years ago) and knowing it quite well I will say that NO it is not a fantastic state! Far from it.
Most beautiful state? Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, if you think it's the most beautiful state, you must not get out much. Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado all put California to shame. There are probably others that do as well, I just haven't been there yet.
As for the fantastic weather...depends on where you are in California and what you like. Much of it is blistering hot and humid in the summer. The Sierra's can get HUGE amounts of snow in the winter which is fine if you're into snow. Though much the same weather will be found in the other states already mentioned, it's not unique to California.
Yes, the problems with California are the people running (and ruining) it, but it otherwise does not stand out from many other states.
If it trips your trigger, well then, I guess it's your huckleberry. As for me, if I never set foot in that state again it will too soon!

Well up until 20 years ago CA could not be beat, that is why for fifty years MILLIONS from all the other states flocked here.

Ten months out of the year I leave the house with a shirt on and no jacket.
I can ride a motorcycle 12 months of the year.
I can go fishing 12 months out of the year.
I have the ocean and beaches 45 minutes west, and Sierra and snow two hours East.

CA was a paradise until our economy grew so much, millions came for the weather and jobs.
Millions came from out of state to school in CA , after experiencing CA, they stayed with their liberal indoctrination’s.

So now the state has gone to schiiiit, and basically family holds me here.

Hope that helps. Give it twenty years and people will be saying, I don’t get why people live in Montana, at least we’ll still have mild climate.

Believe it or not, farming.
It's what we do. No other state holds a candle to our soil quality, water supply and climate. Believe it or not, as farmers in the mid West have been struggling, we have been having a pretty good run here. My wife loves the ocean. I love the Mountains. We can be in either place in an hour or so. Also, it's home. We've been farming here for 4 generations.

Nah, I don't get out much. I've only been to 50 states, six continents and about a quarter of the countries in the world. I've only been to more countries in the last two weeks than 99% of the people on this board have been to in their entire life.

I'll stand by what I said. Physically California has it all, beautiful mountains, beaches, coastlines, deserts, basically every ecosystem known to man. The states you mentioned have some beautiful scenery too, but right now someone in Montana or Wyoming is freezing their nutsack off while people are sipping wine in shirtsleeve weather in San Diego. It's all in what you consider beautiful, for every person that loves looking at the mountains in Montana there's one that would rather be looking out over Half Moon Bay.

Never in a million years would I move back to California, it's too f ukked up and I'd be miserable. That doesn't change the fact that it's a beautiful place. You can admire the beauty of Ingrid Bergman while still realizing that she's an irredeemably screwed up slut that would make your life miserable if you were married to her.

Another state with a lot of beauty is New York. The upstate region is beautiful, especially in the fall. It's also another state I'd never in a million years live in because of its state government, screwed up values, and screwed up people.

I like rural California. It is a beautiful state. This fall Yosemite was a pain in the butt with all the crowding, but the rest of our sight seeing trip was excellent. We started at Reno and spent a couple of days in Yosemite and headed for the Pacific Coast highway, then a meandering tour of the mountains and countryside as we wended our way back towards Reno. Highway 36 from the coast to the Interstate was a beautiful ride. We could see some rather large smoke plumes from wildfires but didn't get too close to any. Near Shingletown we saw a big sign at a cattle farm that featured firearms and announced THIS PROPERTY INSURED BY WINCHESTER AND SMITH AND WESSON. The Lassen volcano park was more to my liking than Yosemite. The Donner memorial at Truckee was very interesting and makes you realize that our pioneers went through a lot to establish civilization in California. I could be perfectly happy living in California if not for the coastal cities politics running things.

Watch it 700.

If the Feds don't give Gavin some funding he may just have to take measures.

Like send busloads of homeless to your State. Or maybe do a 23 & Me or other DNA test and find out where they came from or have relatives living, send them back to where they came from.

Curtail wine shipments to unfriendly States. Lettuce in the winter too, no salads for the haters. All almonds will be sold overseas except those to be used/eaten in Cali.

Well in Oregon, it would be a bunch of people hating your California plates, because they use to have California plates, but they moved to Oregon, so now they think they are better than you.....

Ha! Once again you types are doing it wrong.

Montana has about 1000 different licence plates. You really have to look sometimes to figure out what the hell it is.

No longer can we, at a glance, spot the people we hate. People from Kalispell specifically and Western Montanans in general.

We can still spot a California plate from a mile off. We can still hate them with out having to actually talk to them first.

Its really embarrassing........striking up a conversation....only to find out that person is from 7 county. They often seem like nice people at first.....then Bam! You find out where they are from and you have to hate them.

It would be easier if 7 county folks were of a different skin color or had big, hook style noses. Then we wouldn't have to talk to them first.

Get you schit together California! Camouflage them license plates!

I live here and don't think I can quite agree with it either. It might have very diverse beauty but it is in pockets. We don't really have any majestic rivers like the Columbia or Snake or Mississippi or a Grand Canyon but I would be proud to show off some of the coast, the eastern Sierra, Redwood Forest and parts of our desert.

You must have forget that California has a beautiful coastline that you can't see from Id, Mont, Wyo, Utah and Colorado. Our humidity is in late summer and brief due to mild monsoons from the south. We are no hotter than most parts of the U.S, I'd say slightly cooler and our 100+ days are way shorter than some places. We aren't shut in in the winter. I don't have to winterize my bikes, or my RV. I use them through the winter. So you hate California, what ever, but your hatred has made you blind to anything California has to offer weather wise or geographically.

I agree. Utah would be hard to beat, but alas, no real sea.

Too many Mormons and you have to be sponsored to drink in a bar.

Nyet.

From St.George it's a short hop into AZ for a real bar experience.

How sane is it to blame all your problems on a state which is half a country away from yours?

Do you really think anybody on this board needs to be told that? People that are on Calguns.net and leave California just want to be left alone when they leave. I would be the same. Anybody that would feel the need to tell me how to behave in a new town would be told to MYOB. If that didn't work, FOAD.

Please explain the infestation of leftist liberal ideologies in schools, universities, local, state and federal political positions from out of staters then, they are fu-king cancer that kills all they come into contact with!

But please cut me some slack as my AO locale doesn't sound like a menu item at a mexicali restaurant, Thanks.

Just because someone moved to your locale from California, doesn't mean they're Californian. In the big CA metros - SF, LA, OC... You can figure on 30 to damned near 40% of the population hailing from out of the USA. Figure an equal amount are from one of the other 49 states or territories. IME, less than 1 in 10 people in the city of SF are locals. Possibly 1 in 20.

CA was and is the gold rush state. Millions upon millions of people have come here to make their fortune, then go elsewhere. They brought their ideologies with them, and take them when they leave. Folks don't just come over the stateline, drink the water and all of a sudden have a sudden urge to remove the MAGA hat and put on a pussy hat.

I know you're smarter than to believe this infestation came in the form of out-of-staters. It is the communist agenda which has been at work here for decades.

A person's daily environment affects them mentally.
Where you live becomes a part of you whether you like it or not.

When you sober up, write something more coherent.

You all know my worn out story.
I had the misfortune of being born here.
I went to work...got married..built a pension.
Got heavily invested in my spouse and our kids.
I have a beautiful wife, a fantastic job and home.
Unfortunately my wife absolutely refuses to leave.
I hunt and fish my ass off.
I despise the liberal culture and the idiots that they elect to office in this state.
I'm no different than the reddest of you red state Republicans.
I'm trying to live my redneck, cowboy lifestyle as best I can.
I do a pretty good job of it.
Things get real tough with the wife sometimes because of my strong desire to leave.
Not sure where my future plays out.
I've enjoyed sharing my life with you guys.
I'm certainty not what most of you think of when you think of Californians.

Maybe 20 years ago this was more accurate. We interact with our people. It's not as if we are limited to a local paper or local news that is biased and it "changes us". California is an easy scape goat. You ,and all of us really, should be directing your anger at the college system in this country. The liberals are smart enough to realize that they can change a nation by infecting the youth with those poison. College indoctrination, shaming on social media ect. ect.

But obviously, venting about California seems to be good therapy for some. So carry on.
