Another year come and gone so sign in please so we can see who is still around. smile

Lost a good friend this year, John Wright (CMHJohn). frown

I bought next to nothing Savage in 2019 and 2020. Made up for it in 2021. eek

Ordered a new car in July (nothing on the lot). We pick it up this coming Monday. They can't build cars/trucks because of a chip shortage! mad

I'm tired of Covid but I think it is going to be around for a while longer. So far the wife and I have not had it. whistle

Enough of my year end rambling. Lets hear from you. Oh, and....

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! grin

Happy New Year Rick,

I've been around since the old gun and knife board....God how old are we. Took a couple year hiatus when the fire went through a stretch of folks that had to bad mouth everything and everyone. I still lurk and try to help out when I can.

Picked up a Savage 23B and a 23A this year. A couple 99s and finally procured a 250 savage with a stith and a weaver K3 on it with fine crosshairs and dot reticle. Picked up a 1907 and 1917 both in 32 acp, then I got hit with Corona for a 2nd time and almost lost the battle. Working on mending still and just happy to be around.

Happy New Years fellas
Happy New Year everyone. My goal for 2022 is to find a 303T!!

Another year of learning. I don't contribute much, but I do learn something new from here.

Happy New Year
Happy New Year Everyone

Here’s the report for the year, as I listen to some kids setting off firecrackers.

I’ve gone from zero to two 1899’s. Discovered the first one in my late father’s gun safe - I never knew Dad had this gun (and a few others as well). Using Rory’s book, this appears to have been built in 1902. 30-30. Full length octagonal barrel. Straight stock (not a pistol grip). Curved metal butt plate.

Attended the Tulsa Wannemacher show in November and got to meet a few of the regulars in this forum (thank goodness Joe was wearing clothes). Also picked up my second 1899. 250 Savage. Takedown. As I recall, it was built in the late teens (1916?). Barrel chopped to about 19”. Wearing a Weaver K4 in a Stith mount. Pistol grip. A shooter, not a collection piece. Rick and Rory helped me to evaluate the gun and validate the price. Much thanks.

Finding this campfire Savage forum has been great. Entertaining and informative. The education has been tremendous. Thank you for your contributions and sharing your expertise.

Watching eBay, the classifieds here and a couple of Texas classifieds, I have been able to outfit myself for reloading. Bonanza Co-ax press, Dillon manual scale, Belding & Mull powder measure, Lyman vibrating tumbler, Hornady ultrasonic, six sets of dies, brass, and bullets. Picked up a RCBS hand primer and copy of Ken Waters Pet Loads this morning.

Two weeks ago, I scored a nice deal on 10,000 primers and a 8-lb jug of powder. Feel extremely fortunate.

Trying to start the new year right. Will be driving to Bastrop TX tomorrow to pick up a Weaver K4 that will sit on Dad’s Rem 760 chambered in 308 Win. Currently wearing a crappy Bushnell Banner scope that I believe Dad bought in the early 70’s for about $25. I may have the K4 serviced or reconditioned by Ironsight.

Blessed to still have my mom - she will be 92 in March. Just learned that my daughter will have her firstborn this coming July. Planning to spend some time in California with my 2-yo grandson.

Now, if I can just find some ammo for my 250 ….

Here’s to a happy, healthy, blessed and safe 2022.

Forrest

Checking in, slow year for me buying 99’s, focused more on picking up ammo. Happy new year all! Paul
Posted By: 99guy Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/01/22
Yep

Only bought one 99 this now past year of 21. Got the covid in early November. Had all my shots so was able to shake it off like a bee sting.

Going to be moving farther south in VA in the next few months. Things being what they are I'm going to sell (purge) some stuff.

Have sold 2 on GB so far. Both brought stupid prices which is making a lot of my other guns really nervous.

Changing jobs, am going to try and make it to Pa in August of 22

Still here.

Sold a few 99's recently and am at a net loss in numbers for the year but satisfaction is higher with acquisition of some good firearms other than Savages. I don't think I'm much of a collector, more a shooter.

Happy New Year to all fellow 99 fans!

Chasing down (1/2 the fun) a barrel band 99 in 250-3000 as of late. I don’t own one yet, but hopefully soon. Not pristine, but fine for a hunter. -Tom T

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I think I got the 99K 250-3000 early this year. and the 99B 22 H-P at the Denver show in September.
Got an antelope with the switch barrel 99G with the 250-3000 barrel and an elk and a buffalo with the 99EG in 308.
Got covid despite being vaccinated. It didn't make me very sick, mostly just tired. The flu I had 5 years ago made me a lot sicker. I've gotten over being tired and ready to rock and roll in 2022!
Happy New Year!
Glad to see you All.

Added and upgraded in the areas of Savage rifles, pistols and memorabilia in 2021.
Many from the John Wright collection. Gone but not forgotten...

The thirst for Savage knowledge continues. The hunt is half the fun!
Health and happiness to All in 2022.

Here, picked up a 99F in 308 this pass year, still hunting for more shooters.

Have great New Year
Posted By: gnoahhh Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/01/22
Happy New Year!

Been selling some Savages, replacing with my new passion for single shots, but some of them are Stevens so there's still a family resemblance.

I have always been a shooter/hunter not a collector. Now that I'm less and less a hunter the target shooting is even more important, hence the gravitation towards pure target rifles. 2022 also might be the Year of The .22.

Stay safe and prosper, my friends.

Still hanging around. Am being told at age 79 with issues I may be nearing my “use by” date so am going to unload a couple of rifles, some antique ammo/boxes (Savage calibers) and a few collected sights. Have a NIB Lyman Alaskan and new Stith mounts for it, but am ambivalent about selling those. Right now the wife and I are both fighting Covid after having both Pfizer shots last spring, so will wait to list on GB/EBay.
Posted By: dsr1935 Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/01/22
Had good year for buying. Got a couple of posers. One is an 1899 with a 26 1nch barrel 22 HP take-down. May or may not be original. Forend wood not a Savage but otherwise all numbers match. Other is a 1907 pistol with serial number which says it was made 1919 but the slide seems to be an early 07. Th bolt block is numbered to the frame. Searching for answers is such fun.

Hope for a Savage Fest in 22.. D

Yup, still here several times a day. Haven't bought or sold a gun in years living in the Republic.

Built 78 Lightfoot mounts in 2021. Grand total is now 390. Headed to the welding shop Monday morning to get 2022 kicked off. Have 4 in the queue already.

Happy New Year to all the fellow loonies!
Happy New Year to all.
Have all the Savage levers I need but that probably won't stop the hunt for upgrades or that elusive K...
Only couple of 22's in 2021. Probably more of them too?? Did get the 22 Hornet that was on wish list.
I check in at least once per day to see what's up with you all and learn something Savage.

Happy New Year to all from Texas. Still check in most every day. Need to make more room in the safes so some Savages must go. Tom
Posted By: Joe Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/01/22
Still here off and on. Last 99 I got was in 2019, a .303 H Carbine for hunting purposes. This is the first dealing I've had with the .303 and am now a believer in that round. My load development consisted of selecting the RCBS 30-180FN, which is just over 190 grains as cast, and enough IMR-4320 for just over 1900 fps and done.
Lost my 94 year old Mother last month so the whole month is a blur and seems surreal but, she had a wonderfully full life and even played Bingo the afternoon she had the massive stroke...a joy to be around. We shall meet again!

Happy New Year!

Last year I sold three 99s at a local gun show and picked up three EGs - a checkered .250-3000 with a 22" barrel, a checkered Spiegel, and the .303 with a 22" barrel that we have been discussing re: whether the checkering is optional factory or not.

I shot a decent 8 pointer with a modified EG in .300 in November.

Still would like to find a late pre-war checkered F.

Happy new year everyone. I am going to focus this year on finding some nice shooter 99’s. I like shooting them much more than looking at them in the safe…. I think 🤔
Posted By: zcm82 Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/01/22
New guy here since September, but been lurking a while before I signed up.

My Savage activity for the year was picking up another EG .300 back in March, and sending my first EG .300 into McGowen back in August for a rebarrel to .250. That should be getting finished and back to me just about anytime now.
Posted By: hanco Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/01/22
Still learning about 99’s from you gentlemen, bought a couple last year, a 32-40 made in 1908, another F 358 made 56. I really like 358’s. I’m thinking about selling the Kleinguenthers I have to get a few more 99’s, but ain’t made up my mind yet.

Happy new year to you all.

Happy Holidays to everyone.
This is usually the first site I check every day,and you all have provided a wealth of information that has led to my not so abundant wealth!
I think in the last year at least a dozen Savages have arrived home. I was able to stroke a few off my long list though, a 24V 22H/20ga, 1899/1916 .22hp H, 35' H 250/V3-2, 40' 303EG chkrd/57sa, 53' 300R, 14Classic nib 250, and several more plus other makes.

Christmas eve stopped at a small GS that usually has a dozen on the rack, had an awesome Rem 722/300Sav with a K2.5 and 2 boxes 180gr ammo for $650c so I sang Xmas carols all the way home.
Hope you are all warm as up here, 85 miles North of Warroad/Minnesota line, with the slight breeze it is -45 at 11:30am and been close to this all week. Bob

PS.- Staying inside and warm, found a set of 22HP dies and 20 boxes of .228 bullets on the internet- but Dang $65c a box! Only bought 2.

I have been mostly lurking on this forum since stumbling onto it shortly before the Wellsboro festivities several years ago. Enjoyed Wellsboro, but have not yet made it to Noxen. Perhaps this is the year.
Several years ago I promised my SIL he could have my 243 Savage 99CD & will send it to him shortly. That leaves me without a Savage, so I am hoping there will be a few enablers at Noxen to point me in the right direction for another Savage.
Wishing you all a great 2022.

Not to derail the thread, I have seen a few for sale over the years but I have only seen one in person in my life. It was at one of the 100's of little gun shows I have been too over many, many years. A guy at one of the tables told me he had bought it for $600 from one of the other vendors. I asked him if he would consider selling it to me. I wasn't even able to get the conversation to price. His answer: No.

Good luck with your search, sincerely.

I come and I go...periodically catch up on reading pages at a time. I’ve bought a few 99’s over the years from some guys here. I have learned quite a bit over the years from this site.

My primary interest is shooting and hunting with long bows and recurves, but I enjoy hunting with 99s when I’m hunting with my family.

Present!

I'm not certain, but I don't think I added any Savage products to my accumulation this year.

Still searching for a "Lightest" 1895 (you know who you are!) and also a solid frame 1899 H, any caliber but preferably .303

My wife is an RN and very tired of the covid B.S.. It looks like I'm going to rejoin the "working class" ASAP so that she can catch her breath after the last couple years of crazy 12 hour 7 day weeks. Neither of us have taken Big Brother's Jab and with her swimming in covid patients, shocking to all around us, neither of us has had so much as a sniffle.

I continue to count my blessings...

Happy New year to all!!!

Tis a tack driver....in fact last firearm I bought in last 13 months. Last 99 was a beautiful early 50's EG in 250/3000 in Oct of 2020. Happy and Blessed New Years to everyone.

Did really well not buying Savages the first 3/4'ths of the year. Then I fell off the bandwagon. Might be clearing out some duplicates this year.
I'm still here.

Haven't bought a 99,or any rifle, in two years... prices and availability being what they are. Recently got back into reloading, so spending money and time there. Also leaves more in the budget for out of state hunts.

Have two made in 1925 1899's. The .250 has an old scope that has two dots added below crosshairs. Can't remember the brands at this moment, but were well known in the day.

The second is a .300, with a tang peep sight. Both are great shooters, the 250 especially, no recoil and a scope for aging eyes.

Yes, I need to learn to do pictures.

Happy New Year, Art

I think a lot of us just do not have the collections and or the knowledge that some of you guys have. I do really enjoy the information and banter as I usually stop in everyday. Also, a lot of us have no frigging clue as how to post photos. A lot of us are on gunboards, the Marlin Collectors, etc. and photos there are a piece of cake. Here, not so much. Regardless, it is a nice place to visit. grin

Yes, photos are a pita here. It takes several steps. As far as discussions and not having a large collection, that's ok, we only talk about one at a time.

How many of us are still here since that forum
Posted By: kiwi Re: Sign In Please.... 2022 - 01/04/22
I went back and counted those that joined 2002 or earlier
that had signed in and there were 9
Not sure how long the gun & knife forum went but its great to see that for the past
20 years people have shared their knowledge helped others and encouraged new members
more than you can say for a lot of other social media platforms
I don't think that I have signed in yet, but I joined in Aug. 2002. miles

Still here. Years ago I bought a 4 digit serial number 1919 NRA Match Rifle. Since then I've wanted a 1923 and 19-33. Managed to get the 23, 33, and a Stevens 414 Armory in 2021. Thanks to Gene for pushing me over the edge on the 19-33. I knew they started the serial numbers at 45,000, but when looking at the 33 in one of the auctions, I didn't notice the serial was 45,024, maybe first or second day of manufacture? Gene did, and he pointed out it had all the stuff for an early 33. Very happy with that one. Then Gary helped me on the 414 Armory, and at lunch Sunday, gave me the thumbs up on that one. Taking the 33 and 414 to WV this weekend. I was saddened to hear CMHJohn passed, and I still miss my old friend Youper, who passed a couple years ago. I also enjoy the honor of picking up far away guys at BWI so they can make a trip to Noxen. No one on the list yet. Bless you all.

I’m still here, I don’t post much but drop in from time to time to learn. I did acquire more Savage lever guns last year than I ever have, the bulk of them coming from a LGS friend that had bought out a collection that had 8 in it that he wanted to move before Christmas to go buy another collection of pistols. Got some reloading dies, bullets, and about 12 lbs of powder with them too! Most were nothing special and well used, but I’ll see how they shoot and have a few to trade or turn into projects. I did pick up a few others and I’ll try and figure out the picture thing and post about them as I have some questions to confirm what they are. I just don’t find as much time as I would like to be able to do that, the ranch, kids, and a full time job seem to not leave as much for my gun habit as I would like.

My gun addiction wasn’t limited to Savages though, picked up some others as well. I have been interested in single shots for awhile picked up a few of those. Some bolt guns also, four from a auction that were Rem 700 classics in fine shape, a .17 Rem, .257 Roberts, .250 Sav, .300 Sav. Also, been down the rabbit hole of having a custom fast twist .220 swift built for coyote hunting and had my great grandfathers Stevens 820B restored, which had been in pieces since I was a kid.

Glad to see 2021 gone with the drought, depressed cattle markets and other economic issues, Covid BS, and having back surgery right after Christmas! Hoping 2022 is better! Although I will be turning 40 this year and starting to crest that hill 😂, wishing everyone here a happy and blessed New Year.

Jake

I think a lot of us just do not have the collections and or the knowledge that some of you guys have. I do really enjoy the information and banter as I usually stop in everyday. Also, a lot of us have no frigging clue as how to post photos. A lot of us are on gunboards, the Marlin Collectors, etc. and photos there are a piece of cake. Here, not so much. Regardless, it is a nice place to visit. grin

Yes, photos are a pita here. It takes several steps. As far as discussions and not having a large collection, that's ok, we only talk about one at a time.

Might be time for me to get bent out of shape trying it again.

I upload pics onto Imgur as a matter of course if I think I may want to share them on the internet at some point. Depositing pics from Imgur to this board is a snap, in my opinion.

I haven't contributed too much to this sub-forum but I ain't dead yet, so I will still be adding more. Gonna hunt my Montana whitetail B-Tag with a 1947 M99 .300 this fall. Will repot when appropriate.

Cheers,
Rex

I don’t think I have posted here and haven’t read the campfire for quite awhile although, I did purchase a vintage 1899 in 250-3000 dated to 1915 in October when home to Mt for my best buddy’s memorial after his lost battle with COVID….bought from my fil and he got it from an old timer there. Was given about 100 factory loads probably from the 50’s-60’s and about 100 empty brass with it… It has an early 1x Lyman I believe and is missing the fold up rear tang sight as there is a void in the receiver where it once was….cherry old gun with honest loving wear…if it could play a reel of it’s travels….
This rifle compliments another cherry .300 savage from 1950….the .250 is a take down model a the 300 is not but both sport schnables forends which I am fond of. I am infatuated with these two and may seek another…and another…cheers and Happy New Year gang!

I signed in earlier but that was about it. For me, 2021 was the year I got to upgrade my man cave.

The room I used in my basement for my accumulation was by all accounts a mess. Now I have everything straightened out I get to go down there and play. I rotate the racks with what I have out of the safes to look at at any given time and display all the small stuff I have accumulated over the years. Nine display cabinets hold a lot of stuff. I also added some blue tooth enabled Bose speakers and like to listen to guitar heavy Blues for total sensory emersion.

90% of the time I am displaying Savage 99/1899's and Ansley H. Fox and shotguns. The rest is ammo, books, cannons and collectibles.

Signing in , Happy New Year ! Hope to work on my Stephens Visible Loader this year. I know it's going to be tough finding a 22 inch scope for it though. As far as the mounts and being such a purist ,I won't want to drill any holes.
Happy new year to All. I'm straying a little right now, building a custom 6.5x47 Lapua.

Aren't you the guy that made the Malcolm Scope on my 22HP?

He was a Malcolm too what made that scope.
When they open the border l'll be down for some 3/4 inch thin wall brass and steel tubing to try and make up a long scope with lenses and cross hairs . It will be fun to see how it looks on my Steven's .22's . compared to the old catalogues.
