Let's see you 2011 Deer photos taken with your Savage.
Here is mine a nice 8 point taken with my Grandpap's Savage 99 250-3000.
This is my second year hunting with the old 99, last year I shot a 5 point with it. This gun has a lot of sentimental value and will always stay in the family
Nice deer taken with a classic gun.
Mike
Nice Buck, Nice rifle, Nice Hat....
Congratulations
Nice Buck, Nice rifle, Nice Hat....
Congratulations
Nice Buck, Nice rifle, Not-so-much on the hat!.
Congratulations!
*****edited because my original commentary on Steelers Lid was not nice!!!!*****
I'd say that's a 'mature' buck. Nice work and thanks for sharing!
Classic all the way round.........
This morning sitting in my ladder stand with my 358R, I let this one walk, maybe next year he'll get bigger.
jbmi, that was very good sportsmanship on your part, hopefully you will see him next year
Don
Keep adding the pictures, folks. Let's see how long we can make this.

No meat for me, Just My new pre war R hangin on the side of camp 99
Uncle Lonny sent me a photo of a buck he shot at camp 99 yesterday. Late for velvet up here.
That is a pretty cool picture. Velvet and snow. Nice.
Might ask him about the buck's set of twins. Damaged testicles or other issues with them can cause the velvet to stay on much longer.
Or absent completely. One of our group shot an antlered doe some years ago. She was full velvet and in her milk.
Got some meat...
Good looking meat and a classy rig too!
Got some meat...
NICE! BTW, Thanks for your service. What is the scope in the stith?
FJ,
Thanks for he kind words...

Phil,
It is impossible for you to look more like a pure Michigander than you do right there. Damn I love Michigan! Great job.
Took this small 8 point this morning with my 99 A .375 winchester . One shot to neck exited out the top on the opposite side not much meat loss . All of the blood is from where I cut him to bleed out . Tom

Congrats a beautiful deer and a beautiful gun
Very nice Tom. Conrats. Neat rifle as well.
Congrats to all the other pics/stories that are shared. Always love seeing dead things with Savages beside them.
Nice pics guys , just got back from my Hunt, deer sighting were way down this year, but I shot this nice Doe on the opener Nov. 15th at 1st light 45-50yrds, with My fixed up 1899 Engraved "B" in 303sav. i used win. 190gr. silvertips! deer piled up at 40yrds., i passed up a spike the night before last, 35yrds shot I had my 303 trapper, with the redfield peep sight. let the little fellow grow another year, but it was temping!
congrats John! Tom! and Rod!
My buddie Mark scored on this fine 10pt & 6pt. useing his gramps 308 "C" on opening moring also, the gun was packed away, when i took the pic., needless to say Mark Won our buck pool!
John
why didn't anyone shoot the one behind him???
Thats the archery target, at camp! its been shot at bunch! and even hit a few times!
we bow hunted a few days before the gun opener, one spike and a 6pt. were taken, gun, one doe, 2 spikes, a 6pt and the 10pt. out of 11 hunters, I had the only Doe tag, and hunted south of the other guys on the opener, at my place!
Nice doe John! And shot with a darned nice rifle.
Rod

Shot this boar hog last night. 308EG from '55, 150 corlokts, about a 50 yard shot, hit him between the eye and the ear. I hate these [bleep] things. The damage they do is amazing, we shoot every one we see. This one filled up my tailgate, prolly 225 on the hoof.
Here's this seasons haul. All I got was a 2 day hangover for a 7 day party. One 7 pt, three 5 pointers and a mistake (fawn). The guy that got the three five pointers moved his stand to about 250-300 yds from where mine is and cut me off bigtime, thats o.k., I'll make damn sure that tree gets hit by lightning before next year, trust me. Besides, I felt bad for him, he got 15 points with three bucks and I got 16 points with one buck last year so I couldn't whine to much.
Keep the pics coming guys....
Nice job John and love the meat pole there Joe. Congrats to both of you guys.
Very Nice Mad Dog! Has an old school feel to it! Is there a "limit" in Ontario? Just asking seeing the one baaaastid that back-doored you got 3 bucks...NH, no can do!
Everybody gets one buck tag each and theres a lottery to turn your buck tag into an "antlerless" tag. We just count up how many bucks and doe tags we have total and throw them on the table when you come into camp. Shoot a buck put a buck tag on it, shoot a doe, put a doe tag on it. We try not to shoot does. It's a party tag system up here, even if we only have one buck tag left all 7 of us can hunt on it.
Understood! No snow on the ground up your way yet I see.
Did anybody whack any PA black bears today with Savage 99s?
Congrats to all . Love to see the pics .
I will be trying for a doe in the morning with my 1899 B in 25-35 .Tom
Good luck Tom and you know pics must follow....
No problem Jim, I will send pics if I harvest a doe . Tom
Great pictures guys, kinda difficult to take a picture of "TIRED" so far thats all I have bagged. Havent hunted mutch to many other stressful problems to deal with. GW
Here's a pic of billy336's hunt.
If I could only figure out how to post a picture. My wife and I worked on it for 45 minutes last night. So frustrating. Why can't this work like Craigslist?! I can get pictures on there in a few minutes! Why does this have to be so hard? What am I missing?
Are you using the correct image tags?
Alot of sites use [img], here it's [image].
Joe, [img] also works here.

I agree that it's a total pain in the ass. Why it's not like Facebook where it uploads straight to the site in mere seconds is ridiculous. I've got endless pics of 99 kills and other Savage pics but no one will ever see them.
really guys... photobucket is free and stupid easy to use... spend 10 maybe 15 minutes and you will get it figured out... also sticked to the top of the photography forum on this site is step by step directions...
I am not real great on a computer, but actually my wife is. We can't figure it out. I'll try the tutorial. It keeps saying my images are too large, or have too much info in them, you know what I mean? I tried cropping the pictures, but didn't help. I tried photobucket, not good. It's just me I'm sure, but it really could be easier. I can do Craigslist....
you CANNOT upload photos directly to the fire... you MUST use a service like photobucket. check out the tutorial... it should make it easy... lots of first timers use it and say it was easy and straight forward once they viewed the tutorial.
I don't use a computer, I use my iPhone 99% of the time, so photobucket isn't an option
Joe, [img] also works here.
Since when? Never used to!
has always worked as far as I know...I've always used the img code
Must have been pre-2005 and I just got used to doing it that way and never looked back at doing it the other way. I even still change the tags when I copy off a photobucket account.
Guess life just got easier!
See, there's the problem. I don't even know what the heck you guys are talking about. All that "tag" talk. I am so unworthy. I am so unworthy.
fireball, it's actually pretty easy.
First thing is to get the picture to an internet web site that will store it for you. Photobucket.com is very common, picasaweb.com is another one, there are others out there.
Second thing is to find the internet path to the picture. Every picture has a path, just like every web site has a path.
https://www.24hourcampfire.com is a path to a web site, while
http://www.24hourcampfire.com/images/imge2.jpg is a path to a picture. A picture path usually ends in .jpg or .JPG or .GIF. Photobucket or picasa will usually give you a box with the path to the picture, just have to copy it from there.
Then you paste the path to the picture between two "tags". The starting tag is [img] - which tells the campfire you are going to display a picture. Then put the path to the picture. Then put a [/img] which tells the campfire that you are done displaying a picture.
So...

all together on one line produces:
If you are an old dog having trouble learning new tricks, replace [img] with [image] throughout my instructions above.
I will ruminate on that when I get a few hours.... Thank you so much for your trouble.
Nice Buck, Nice rifle, Nice Hat....
Congratulations
Like Meatloaf said "Two out of three ain't bad"
I shot this one this afternoon with my 99E Lightweight that I got from forum member marshfellow and wearing the Stith/Alaskan that I got from Mule Deer.
I'll post a pic later of my brother and I. He also shot an 8 point with his 99EG in .250-3000 that he bought from 300jimmy wearing a 3/4" Stith setup. A good day for the Osterberg boys. Both of our boys shot spike horn bucks yesterday. More pics when I can!
Nice job Brian. Congrats to you and yours and thanks for sharing.
Congrats Brian!! Great to see you, your brother, and boys doing well!
Took this young doe this morning with my 1899 B in 25-35 that fellow fire member Erich let me have . He said it was shooter and he is correct . Tom

Nice shooting there Tom. Neat rifle and deer. Congrats sir.
Nice! Haven't yet found a 25-35.
This yrs buck, Sav.99F in 308.
Another great buck! Congratulations!
I really love those dark antlers.
Hi guys; longtime lurker here. Over the years, this is the 5th Antelope to fall to this rifle.
October 2011
99R 250-3000
1956 vintage (both rifle and me)
245 yards
Nice shooting and thanks for posting, Paperpatch1. What bullets are you shooting?
Your setup looks close to the 1950 250-3000 "EG" with a 10x Weaver that I've rigged up for varmint shooting.
Very nice! PaperPatch1, also curious where you hunt?
My buddy Sten and I just got back from a New York hunt. I shot a small button buck about the size of a small dog. (good eatin')
My buddy Sten got a beautiful 10 point.
This was the first year we could use rifles in Chautaqua County, so I brought my pre-war 30-30 EG.....
My doe:
Sten's buck:
We had alot of fun.....drank alot too....

An additional pic of my brother and I. These made for 4 bucks at camp taken with 99's. My son's spike with a 99F .243, wisconsin99's fork with a 99EG in .300 with a Stith/4x Norman Ford, and these two.
Congrats to everyone. Glad to see so many 99"s being used. Keep the pictures coming.
Dave
I don't mean to ring my own bell, but Drew posted my blacktail deer/Savage 99 pictures under "Fireball2 pictures" in this Savage collectors forum. I haven't gotten the picture deal figured out yet.... If I could I would include mine here. Thanks...
Howdy All,
I unexpectedly inherited a 1926 takedown in .300 a couple months ago. It's worn, beat up, dinged, scratched and, as you can see, the butt stock has a slip on recoil pad and compass. Oh, the horror! The scope is a 4x Kollmorgen.
I cleaned it up, remounted the scope and sighted it in. Accuracy was good and the glass was surprisingly clear.
Took these two dink Georgia does this past weekend with factory Remmy 150 CL's. Both broadside lung shots @ 50 yds, bang-flops within seconds of each other. Pic show the exit sides. Really liked the fast follow up for the second shot.
LOL! 2x DRT's with a 1920 designed cartridge in an 85 year old rifle with a +/- 65 yr old scope. Have to admit I was chuckling as I climbed down the tree I was in.
Thanks Gramps and RIP. Wish I could've told you in person.
FYI, I'm a new 99 fan and hooked on my "new" deer rifle. Might hafta check around for another or two....
Congrats and great job! It's amazing how well that 300 Savage cartridge works, isn't it?
And be warned, it's very tough to stop with one 99.
Thanks Calhoun and yes, I was very impressed with the terminals. With 6 more weeks of deer hunting left here (and more tags than I need), I should have the chance to shoot a few more with it. (My neighbor grows peanuts and would like me to kill them all....)
Your warning is noted (and ignored)
.
Oh, that's a model 99G, by the way. Your granddad had good taste. Sorry to hear about your loss, but I'm sure he'd be very happy to see it get out in the field again.
Here is a photo of my 2011 Wisconsin rifle buck. Shot out of the same camp as Docost & family. I have shot many bucks with a savage 110 bolt, but this was my first deer with a 99.
Another convert.
Like to know more about that gun.
EG or G with a Stith? Caliber? Guessing 300 by the length of the barrel
looks like an EG with a Lyman Alaskan but thats just my guess...
It's a 1948'ish 300EG with 7/8 Stith and Norman-Ford "Texan" 4x scope. I bought it several years ago and the scope wouldn't hold a group so I took the Stith off and kind of forgot about it. I set everything back up this year and was determined to buy an Alaskan if the Texan was no good. Eventually, I figured out that the set screw going into the rear dovetail needs to be tight....Now it shoots under 1".
What is that white stuff on the ground in your pic? Temp was lows 70s here last Sat. when I was hunting. I think I got a slight sun burn.
Like2Shoot-
Not a lot of snow when we started but we were blessed with a couple of inches after opening day. Here is a shot from my stand!
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Got soaked the first three days and used a lot of snake oil but Saturday was nice and my son got his 8 point 30 minutes after I shot baldy. One shot each from a pair of 250-3000's.
Nice! Congrats to both of you.
Rod
Here is another one to add to the thread.
My son normally shoots a 99C .308.
This year he used the 99 I took my deer with. He is now the fourth generation to take a deer with this 99 .250-3000.
Very nice photo. Congrats!
Rod
congrats Dave, not a lot kids out killing deer with a 99T in 250!
Shot a Pennsylvania doe with my Model E 308...Bought this 99 cheap years ago and re-did the stock, cut the stock and added a but-pad, put a Leupold VXI 3x9 on it, with the screw-in scope caps and use this one as my bad weather 99.....(This 99 has one of the nicest birch stocks I've ever seen)
Got this fella on Thanksgiving morning and had to sink to my knees and thank the Good Lord for land to hunt on and Whitetail venison and my .300 Savage!
Good hunting to everyone out there! I live near Chicago, but get up to SW Wisconsin and took this guy and a younger one so far this year. Man we enjoy the meat and also the huntin! Take care. By the way, my .300 Savage is made in 1941. Scope added later on. One shot from a factory Remington load 180 grain soft points did their job!
Derin Fowler
Wicked set of horns....Congrats. What scope mounts are you using? Looks like a very low scope mount on your EG.
That's a cool old buck Derin. Lots of character in that rack. Congrats!
Rod
Very nice buck congrats . Tom
This yrs buck, Sav.99F in 308.
Damn fine buck. The rack color seems dark brown.
Doc
congrats Dave, not a lot kids out killing deer with a 99T in 250!
Just paging through this thread and saw that 250T even before I saw Drew's post!
Good eyes Drew.
And nice gun! Might want to hold onto that one for a while
The 99T belonged to my Grandpap, Way too much sentimental value to ever let it go. I will try to see how many generations can take a deer with this rifle. My son is the fourth and really likes how well it shoots.

That's good stuff Derin. Nice nice nice.
Guys-
Just wanted to let you know what a pleasure it was to hunt with the .250 for the first time. Took a small buck (pic) attached) and a larger 8 point. The pics of the eight were too dark to use.
Anyway, the in laws were happy to see Grandpa's guns put to good use. Both bucks were shot with iron sights, one at 40yds., the other at 90. The .250 did an amazing job of putting both deer down FAST. I'm sold on that little gun.
http://s1114.photobucket.com/albums/k527/Lucky_Savage/?action=view¤t=2011buck.jpg
Nice job, especially with open sights.
Here's the small buck:
Here is our 2001 buck pole from Lake City, MI. As always,
every deer camp is a honor and a blessing. It don't get any better than this.
That was supposed to be 2011. Damn computers.
Great camp pole. I miss the old blacktail deer hunts with my dad, grandpa (next door neighbor that adopted me) and others. Like you say, it doesn't get any better, anywhere, anytime. Good job.
Nothing to brag about, but this well worn EG in 250-3000 is still putting meat in the freezer.
Nice job there Greg. Cool rifle too. Like the leather products too....
Thanks Jim. I actually made the knife from a knife kit I ordered online last winter. I was sceptical of the quality, but it seems to be good steel so far.
Greg...I agree with Jim on all accounts...rockin' it old school!
Nice deer. What's going on with the back legs of the one on the left? Why are they drawn up?
good pics guys and great hunting ;today was our last ,,skunked .but couldn,t get ot much ,,next year
I shot a sow which was a bit larger than the boar from a couple weeks ago. I HATE pigs with a passion.
Nice deer. What's going on with the back legs of the one on the left? Why are they drawn up?
still in rigor??? Takes about 24 hours to come out normally...depends on temps...
Cool! I like that Story Kromer, dude!
"Let's see you 2011 Deer photos taken with your Savage."
Not one of my 99s, but does a 340 count as a classic Savage?
It surely does. Nice job, though what's that green colored stuff on the ground?
LOL, it was a special early season they do in the area around Kansas City so it was early October. I had already killed two in our September muzzle loader season, this doe here was my first with a "small bore" bullet I cast myself. The little 340 has endeared itself to me.
For the record, I have a couple of 99s, I will get at least one of them out in the field someday.
Here is one taken last week. 300 Sav BB,4X Weaver w/ post, 150 gr Win PP, 41 gr.H 4895, 100yds, 1 shot behind shoulder with pass through. Sorry for bad pic - camera was in truck. Also shot a doe earlier in the week with same results, no pics - "They all look alike. - LBK"

Fine,JUST FINE. I call 'em like I see 'em and you poke fun at me. And I was going to say great things about your BB buck. OK I will anyway. That is one fine looking deer killed with a supurb rifle. Congratulations..........
Here is my 2011 bear shot with 99 in 375win and 3 point buck shot with 99E in 243win. Also shot small doe with 99E. Part of bear made into brats already, boxed and frozen until 2012 Savagefest! Sauerkraut optional.......
Looks like a memorable season. That bear looks to have a choice pelt. I'm hoping to sample one of those brats at the Fest.
Rod
Nice pics, and good eating!
Those 375's are bear poison, straight up...
Mmmm, bear brats. Drooling here. (As long as there's no sauerkraut within nose range. Ha ha.)
Nice pics! realy like the last one! useing them for what they were made for!
Scope mount looks sorta familiar..............

300 BB in not a common gun. In fact they are pretty damn rare.
Nice!
I got this little fork horn with my bobbed barrel 99EG in .358 Winchester in Schoharie County NY on Dec. 3rd. He was chasing
3 does, and as you can imagine, 16 hooves made a LOT of racket coming in on my tree stand. I also took a spike last weekend with my CVA .50 cal. Muzzleloader while still hunting, but I didn't have a camera.
EG in 358, now that's something you don't see every year. Nice job, that buck is going to be delicious.
Well, nobody said it had to be a 99 or a classic Savage, so here's the buck I shot with my Savage Model 11FLNS this fall. It is a .223 Rem. and the buck succumbed to a handloaded 55 grain Speer SP.
[/img]
Thats a gorgeous Ontario buck there!
What WMU you get that big boy in? I see lots of sap lines in the background, looks like where I'm from.
Nice buck!
However, Unfortunately for you when Savage built your gun.........they put the bolt on backwards.
Tough break
Mad Dog
Our camp is in the southern part of WMU 56, not far from Norland.
My cousin owns the property and he has one of the biggest maple syrup operations in the area.
99guy,
I'm a natural right-hander and right eye dominant but a .22 bullet to the spine many moons ago changed how I shoot.
I'm glad some of the firearms companies make a few "wrong-handed" rifles for those of us who shoot from the left shoulder
.
My daughter owns the exact same gun and caliber in the youth model. Gun shoots lights out and I would highly recommend it to anybody.
She is right handed, but left eye dominant.
Sorry to hear of your injury but am glad to see that you are still able to enjoy the great outdoors.
Job well done on those deers fellas!
I got one of those model 11's in 223 also, I had a whole bunch of 223 ammo and nothing to make it go bang in ,then i bought the 11 and she shoots under 1" at 100 yards no problem. Nice deer, nice little rifle. Don
I'll bet you don't regret buying that Model 11 Loggah, and you will probably get more .223 ammo when that supply is used up.
I've only had mine for a couple of years, but I've shot everything from crows and woodchucks to a fox and a coyote - and now a nice buck.
I've nicknamed it "The Terminator".

I'm a 45 boy, sap flowing everywhere on the island in the spring and I've got 100 acres of it. It's gotten to the point now that I gotta pick turkey over syrup, no time for both. Still got all my gear though. Maybe I'll make a few gallons this spring. Funny, the guy that bought the 100 acres right beside me last year is from Minden. With bucks like that around his house I'm kinda wondering why he bought the lot nextdoor to me?????
Maybe he prefers quantity over quality. The numbers here are down quite a bit from what they were five years ago. We had two really bad winters in a row and the deer and turkey numbers dropped but they seem to be on the rebound again.
We've had two real good winters but the coyotes and timber wolves are dropping the numbers real bad. I think it's time to take the caller and a certain 99C in 22-250 for a walk.
Family up in the woods in Minnesota says the wolves are doing a number on the population. Read this morning that they are finally removing them from the endangered list in the northern states. They were pretty thick when I grew up. Lots of them were hunted for the bounty in the good ol' days.
Nice bucks boys! glad ya posted pics, LBK, that is one of the Stithfield Proto types, Im field testing them!

Why we shoot coyoyes. I had a sequence of 11 photos taken by a trail camera to show why, but that darn Photobucket has become as contrary as some women I've known. Here is one of them eating a buck alive after downing him. Hope the photo works.

Better photo
My buddy here in Oregon just sent me those photo's a few days ago. Did they originate with you? This is why I actually enjoy killing coyotes, as many as I can call in.
holy crap, that is a nice buck too boot... I would think he could defind himself with that rack against those skinny yotes...
lovenmy99 iv got more pic of this on my phone. i thought same thing on that big rack. it looks like to me this deer was SHOT in its butt thats y this big guy went down so easy.

I got them from afriend via email. No mention of origin.
I've seen the long sequence of what I think is the same photos. They ham string that buck in the beginning, effevely taking out its' back legs before starting to eat it alive. Here is the post. Get ready to hate coyotes.
http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/5885897/1
thanks ROMAC that shows it alot better than my phone. IAM READY TO HATE COYOTES. Hunt last tuesday cuba ny thats all i seen is coyote tracks.
Yup, these circulated a while back. I agree with 99tguy; the buck appeared to have an injury on its hind-quarter when it first showed up, maybe from a bullet, arrow, car collision, etc.
Don't get me wrong; I don't like the little bastids either, but in this case it looked to me that this coyote is just doing what coyotes do for a living.
Rod
Those are some crazy trail cam pics! Knowing how nimble/fast Whitetail are, it's amazing even a group of Coyote could bring a big one down. Admittedly, I just looked at pics, maybe it was wounded? I have too much Holiday prep. to do to "pull a stool up" and hang at the Campfire today.
But....... Best wishes for a HAPPY HOLiDAY to all at the 24hrCF.
Steve, so sorry for the late reply, but work was really kicking my but this week, lots of last minute "emergencies" before the Holiday break.
Thanks for the congrats! While no trophies, I had a very enjoyable hunting season, and for a "city" kid, I got to spend more time in the woods with bow, rifle and muzzleloader than any prior that I can recall.
I wish you Nan and the rest of your family a Happy Holiday, and only the best in 2012.
Rory, thanks to you too for the kind words. His tenderloins were on a skillet with butter and onions soon after he was hung up in the garage, and your right, he tasted good! :-).
Happy Holidays to you!

Thanks
Deer is still in velvet and pictures are date 8/2. Whose out hunting wounding deer then?
Poachers? Possibly.
And his horns probably haven't hardened off enough yet for him to be able to effectively use them as weapons. And it wouldn't have mattered anyway, when he lowered his horns to go after one yote, one or more would have grabbed his hamstrings.
A group of the little bastids are perfectly capable of taking down any healthy mature whitetail. This may or may not have been the case in this instance, who knows.
Yotes like wolves are the ultimate survivors and opportunists. They take their meals when and where they find them.
We've had two real good winters but the coyotes and timber wolves are dropping the numbers real bad. I think it's time to take the caller and a certain 99C in 22-250 for a walk.
They made a 99 in 22-250?
Not alot of them but ya, they made them.
this is my 303 savage barrel band carbine from 1937. i just got it and deer season is over in sc so i might take it out this weekend and see how well my loads with 150 gr, rem. RNCL will work on coyotes and such.
Very nice rifle on my toget list one day!
Got this during Deer season.. but it was also Bear season! 99A in .250
Nice bear Mike! Did the .250 drop him in his tracks, or did he go a bit? Just curious. Also, 100grain bullet? and what did the bear weigh? I have so many questions, because my brother and I have had a disagreement for decades, he thinks it's marginal for big game, and think it's great, providing you put the bullet where it's supposed to go. Thanks! -TomT
He was dead before I could walk up to him. Running shot in the neck with factory 100 grain Silvertips. It was only about 40-50 yards. The .250 drops deer (and bear) like a lightning bolt if don't push its limits. The bear went 325 with the guts in.
Nice! Good shooting, and thanks for the info! -TomT
Last years 8pt with 99H carbine 303 Savage;
This years 10pt with 1899 35/30-30:
Nice bucks HClark, I like that .303
Nice bucks HClark, I like that .303
Thanks, Big Iron, that gun is becoming my favorite deer gun! Very accurate with factory WW 190 gr Silvertips.
I killed 2 does with my "rescue" 99 in .243. Man I'm glad I found that rifle and took her hunting again.
Welcome to the 'fire. What breed and age is the dog?
I see a deer Terrier. He makin sure that deer don't try to get away. Whats the vintage of the "rescue"?
