Sub-10lbs is really not a very tall order for an easy-shooting short-action bolt gun. I just put my latest 6.5x47L build on a scale. It consists of a 700SA with factory BDL bottom metal, a 22.5" Rem Varmint contour Rock Creek barrel, a factory VLS take-off stock, Talley LW mounts, and a Leupold 1" 3.5-10x40 Tactical with capped turrets. It weighs 10lbs 2oz and balances well. The stock goes about 2 3/4lbs and that heavy laminate butt balances out the Rem Varm barrel. It's fairly neutral in balance, being just a bit heavier on the nose. Heavy flutes and a standard-fill McMillan or Manners stock would get it down closer to 9lbs and likely still balance okay.
