People you trust isn't enough imo, they also need to be capable!
I have plenty of people I trust but when it comes to being self reliant and efficient, almost all of them simply can't do it. I have found the best way to learn someones ability is to take them camping.
This is a bit a departure off topic but I guess it sort of goes with the minimum theme!
