Sounds like an EG. EG may be stamped on the front of the receiver. You have to remove the forearm to see it. The oval on the lever boss contains one or two numbers that indicate the inspector and a letter that indicates the year the rifle was made. The letters started with A in 1949, B in 1950, etc. If it's an I the rifle was made in 1957. Post a partial serial number and we can pin down the date of production for you if the letter in the oval is unreadable. We always like to see photos also. David
