Sometimes like giant breakers hitting the beach only constant -- no interludes. At other times like now, reading this thread, I almost have to "listen" for it; very subdued.

Too many gunshots over the years with unprotected ears I'm sure -- who knew in the sixties, seventies, and even eighties?. I can actually point to one occasion where I acutely injured my inner ear. It was in AK and I had a 340 Wby, braked (the original KDF Recoil Arrestor) and took a shot at a big bull caribou. After field dressing, I unscrewed the thing, replaced the cap and later threw it away. Never again.

My guide and I had a headache for most of the day. I can only wonder at the decibels I released some forty inches away from my ears.

Hearing test in the mid-2000's showed some high range frequency loss. Yea, I know. I've worn digital in-the-ear protectors since. But as the saying goes, what was done cannot be undone.
