I've been hit by a bouncing 9mm bullet (off a bowling pin) and countless bullet splatter off pepper poppers and plate machines at pistol matches. Good eye protection is a must at such events. The 9mm HURT, but didn't break skin, it hit me right on the front pants pocket...........
When I was in the Army, cross-training with some guys from the Cav who didn't know how to call in mortar fire, we dropped about a dozen 81mm rounds on some Cav guys. We got called for a fire mission, dropped the rounds down the tube, and had finished that mission by the time the first three rounds hit downrange. They were REALLY pissed off about that. No one got hurt, luckily, but it was a close-run thing. The other nine rounds scared the [bleep] outa them, for damned sure.
